Australians taking the advice of their government's "Smart Traveller" web site will likely be steering clear of Canada.

That website, which is run by Australia's Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, has Canada listed as a country where travellers should "exercise caution," which is the second-safest category.

Apparently our problems stem from the threat of terrorism, heavy snow, ice and forest fires that can erupt "at any time."

British Columbia, in particular, was singled out as being in an active earthquake zone and "subject to avalanches" along with Alberta.

Countries listed on the Smart Traveller website that are considered safer than Canada include Chile, South Korea and Latvia.

Canada's Foreign Affairs website which offers advice to travellers has no official warnings against Australia, and says most Canadian visitors to that country don't have any problems.

Hmmmm. Australia...home to Great White sharks, Salt Water Crocodiles, some of the deadliest snakes in the world (10 if I remember correctly),poisonous spiders, cyclones, major flooding (Queensland currently), they live just under the largest Muslim population in the world outside of the middle east, and the Bali bombings were in retaliation for Australia being the third largest country to help destroy Iraq.

WAKE UP!!! People actually come here for snow and ice. Earthquakes???? Avalanche danger?....only if you ignore the signs that say 'Avalanche Warning...No skiing, snowshoeing, or skidoos permitted"

Whatever they smoke at Aussie Tourist Bureau......I want some!!

What does this article have to do with US?

Also take note that the Early Warning System is on CANADIAN soil, CANADIAN aircraft take off to respond to alerts and do the dawn patrol.

First of all... gyro is an idiot. Without the US we'd be better off. It's the US that needs us. But let's just be nice and I won't get further into that.

2nd of all... I know tons of Aussie's and all of them have said that they never once were scared or worried while traveling in Canada. If people can't deal with snow and ice then don't come here in the winter!
Forest fires and active volcanoes? Listen to the news you bunch of monkeys. As soon as anything like that is gonna possibly happen we ALL know about it.

Canada unsafe. Whatever! noway mad

I have never heard of British Columbia ever having earthquakes, and as for the danger of crossing the border, measures do need to be taken to make sure there are no people transporting devices across and then back over the border. That is what this world has come to.
We must adapt to any changes in procedures and not to single out any country becuase of its efforts to stamp ut terrorism!!

Ya know where it is scary to be?
I am Canadian, I've seen moose, bears, deer, beavers, tornadoes, ice storms, blizzards and whatever else this beautiful country could throw at me. So I decided that nothing else could be that scary.

Then I moved to London England. Yea, the London Underground is scary enough, then you have all the crazies on the streets and some nutter is always trying to blow something up. These kids were playing with a machete outside my flat and the cops GAVE IT BACK TO THEM! True story.
And if I had been in the West End 4 hours later one night this summer I would have been in the middle of that car bomb scare they had.

Canada is not scary.

I live in the US, but in all honesty I would rather be in Canada than here, the US is going to hell in a hand bag. Between the dumbasses that are running the country and the laws that are screwing us with every day. Saying Canada is dangerous is only something an idiot would believe.

take it from someone who has seen canada three times in his life...via the thumbway express(as i call it)

canada,is one of the most beautiful countries in the world.

while i was hitch-hicking across,i was so amazed how friendly people were..
i even stopped at the nickel mines in sudbury,to talk to the miners there..

yes i wont deny that, like in many other countries.there lurks danger..some people are just generaly evil, and want to do harm to others..murder.gangs..robery..is everywhere.

but canada is a whole where the population is conserned is very wonderful.

and we do have such wonderous natural beauty

CANBERRA, Australia - A man rescued his colleague from the jaws of a crocodile in northern Australia but accidentally shot the unlucky co-worker in the process, police said Wednesday.

The two farmhands were collecting wild crocodile eggs on a riverbank Tuesday in Northern Territory when a crocodile snatched one of them, Jason Green, by the arm, the Northern Territory Police said in a statement.

"The male colleague shot at the crocodile, causing it to let go of the victim's arm, but a further shot hit the victim in the upper right arm," the statement said.

The two men had been collecting eggs to boost the crocodile population at their farm in the northern city of Darwin. Their employer sent a helicopter that flew Green to a Darwin hospital for surgery.

Police Commander Bob Harrison said Green's injuries were not life-threatening.

"He's going to be very sick and sorry and have a very good story to tell," Harrison told Australian Broadcasting Corp. radio.

Police could provide no information about the crocodile's condition.
