Subject: A TRUE Virus Warning! Please Read!

Hi All, I checked with Norton Anti-Virus, and they are gearing up for this virus!

I checked snopes.com <http://snopes.com/> , and it is for real!!
http://www.snopes.com/computer/virus/postcard.asp

Get &nbs p;this E-mail message sent around to your contacts ASAP.

PLEASE FORWARD THIS WARNING AMONG FRIENDS, FAMILY AND CONTACTS!

You should be alert during the next few days. Do not open any message with an attachment entitled 'POSTCARD,' regardless of who sent it to you. It is a virus which opens A POSTCARD IMAGE, which 'burns' the whole hard disc C of your computer. This virus will be received from someone who has your e-mail
address in his/her contact list. This is the reason why you need to send this e-mail to all your contacts. It is better to receive this message 25 times than to receive the virus and open it.

If you receive a mail called' POSTCARD,' even though sent to you by a friend, do not open it.! Shutdown your computer immediately.

This is the worst virus announced by CNN. It has been classifi ed by Microsoft as the most destructive virus ever. This virus was discovered by McAfee yesterday, and there is no repair yet for this kind of virus. This virus simply destroys the Zero Sector of the Hard Disc, where the vital information is kept.

COPY THIS E-MAIL, AND SEND IT TO YOUR FRIENDS. REMEMBER: IF YOU SEND IT TO THEM, YOU WILL BENEFIT ALL OF US.

Hahahaha, if a virus burns your C: then its not going to replicate very quickly.

If a virus kills its host too quickly it can't spread.

EVERY damn chain email is a hoax. If it wasn't a hoax, the news would go through normal channels.

You know everyone is going to think I am crazy. May Be. But all the time I have owned a computer i have got infections here and thier and have to reformatt my hard drive. About 3 months ago i said the heck with it after reformatting I took all my virus spyware hacker stuff off. You know what. My computer runs faster, better and i have not had one single problem with it. Why is That? Miles

You know back in the 60's and 70's the movie theaters in the film was a soda or popcorn or candy nacho's ect. That we did not see in the movie but our mind picked it up. Then we would start to crave these things and go pay the high prices for them.I have wondered how Norton or whoever when a virous comes out can fix it so quickly. I have been told one time when i called HP about what was happening they said that code gets embedded on your registry and so on like a piggy back ride and they said if you know codeing it would take you hours and hours to find everylittle bit and get it off. Yet these company's do not have alot of problemsIMO.just what if now bear with me the software we get or buy to protect our computers talk back to the security companies and they send it out themselves. Would we know any different? Would this not keep them in business on how badly you need them. I just wonder.. Miles

Because you are blissfully unaware that your online banking / shopping details etc etc etc are fly around the interweb.

Try http://f-secure.com not free, but quick and good.

I just transfer money thier when i want and most merchants have a paypal symbol that all i do is give my email address and they do it all. You have it all hung out. There are a myriad of trojan horses out there that log and report keystrokes, passwords, acount numbers, etc. to remote servers. This is done completely without your knowlege. Anyone not running an uptodate antivirus/phishing system on their computer is just waiting to be shafted. Yes, the bank sites and paypal are as secure as they can get; but, your computer is not secure so any hacker can get in and rip you off.

I can see this happening.. Many of the systems I see day to day, have so much 'anti this and anti that' software on it, that is poorly written, ineffective, and sometimes is actually a carrier in itself... That all of it slows the system, takes up unnecessary resources and causes system lock ups and crashes.

Pick one solution to the issue. Just one. More is not better... as in most things.

Most [mal/spy/crime]ware actually monitors the keys pressed on your keyboard.

The letter you hit on your keyboard are not encrypted, so even if the website is secure they can still get your username and password by monitoring the keys your press when logging into the website.

So willy_cents is quite correct.

I'm more than happy to pay for decent virus protection. I must admit that I rarely go for internet security[\i] suites because I am NATed behind a decent router/firewall, and on a properly configured network.

I use and love Macs, but I believe our time is coming. Apple is a lot better at security (or adapting BSDs security) than Micro$oft, but they're not infallible.

There is nothing worse then being apathetic towards security because you believe noting can happen to you because your on a Mac.

I have always suspected that viruses were manufactured by the virus software people.

I call it terrorist marketing. But then, I lean toward being paranoid.

Most anti-virus programs suck. I like AVG free version. Its very fast, its free, it updates, and it does not slow down my computer.

This is so obviously a hoax I don't even have to look it up.
These types of emails should just be ignored and deleted. Don't send them to anyone. You just look foolish.

Not true remember Blaster?

There are even cases of machines (and iPods) shipping with viruses installed.

Yep. There's another one that ships installed. It's called the AOL virus. Comes on its own CD.
