Obama takes presidential oath _ again
1 hour ago WASHINGTON (AP) — Chief Justice John Roberts has administered the presidential oath of office to Barack Obama for a second time just to be on the safe side. The unusual step came after Roberts flubbed the oath a bit on Tuesday, causing Obama to repeat the wording differently than as prescribed in the Constitution. White House counsel Greg Craig said Obama took the oath from Roberts again out of an "abundance of caution." The chief justice and the president handled the matter privately in the Map Room on Wednesday night. |

Superb!
That is how one properly puts the issue down. How hard was that? On the other note, you'd think that the judge that can't administer an oath, would gracefully retire himself? |

Now I think I am going to have to look around abit. |

I don't understand why it was an issue to begin with. I, didn't think of it as an issue, I didn't see a "dark conspiracy" behind it, just a slip up, but someone probably did. We pay this man enough to do everything in perfectly. I expect that. |

It was the judge that messed up. You expect Obama to do everything perfectly. I expect that of no one. I thought that too. He is way too old. But Obama got "screwed" in to this, and I thought it was clear from the video, that Obama knew the correct oath, and was stumbled by the judge. We should expect nothing less than perfection from those we hire. |

I feel that perfection is an unrealistic expectation. It sets one up for failure. |

Yeah, Obama knew it. I think he respectfully followed what the judge was saying. I feel that perfection is an unrealistic expectation. It sets one up for failure. You could see him thinking: "Now what, you asshole?" Do I say the oath perfectly and contempt the court, or do I say what you say and screw this up?" I think he had made a correct decision in a nick of time. He did follow the judge. The retook the oath. Perfect. |

In 1929, Chief Justice William Howard Taft garbled the oath when he swore in President Herbert Hoover using the words "preserve, maintain, and defend" (the constitution), instead of "preserve, protect, and defend". Eventually Taft acknowledged his error, but did not think it was important, and Hoover did not retake the oath.[5][6]
In 1945 President Harry S. Truman's bare initial caused an unusual slip when he first became president and took the oath of office. At a meeting in the Cabinet Room, Chief Justice Harlan Stone began reading the oath by saying "I, Harry Shipp Truman, . . ." Truman responded: "I, Harry S. Truman, . . ."[7] In 2009, Barack Obama followed the lead of Chief Justice John G. Roberts in misplacing the word "faithfully" at the end of the oath.[8][9] The oath was re-administered the next day by Chief Justice Roberts in the Map Room of the White House.[10] -wiki just another footnote |

I was a human moment for pete sakes, anyone could have made that mistake in the moment. Don't know why they needed a do-over except to placate the anal. The whole thing was such an ordeal it's not hard to see how someone could mess it up at the last moment.

The whole thing was such an ordeal it's not hard to see how someone could mess it up at the last moment. If he hadn't re-taken the oath we would have had to listen to years of "He's not President because he didn't take a valid oath", not unlike we have to listen to the ongoing "he's not a natural born citizen" or "he wasn't born in the U.S." etc. etc. |
