Child found safe in Missouri woods after two-day search

(CNN) - A 3-year-old boy who wandered away from his home in rural southeastern Missouri was found in good condition Wednesday, two days after hundreds of people launched an around-the-clock search for him.

A volunteer combing through the woods of the Mark Twain National Forest heard crying and found Joshua Childers some three miles from his home, authorities said.

When Joshua ventured into the rugged terrain on his own, wearing a T-shirt and diaper, his father was asleep and his mother was on the telephone, police said. Authorities and an army of volunteers combed the woods, some on horseback, other using all-terrain vehicles and many on foot.

When he was found Wednesday, Joshua was alert and talking, authorities said. As a precaution, he was taken to a hospital to be examined. No foul play is suspected in the case, authorities said.
