Refusing to delete an account is completely wrong and an abuse of civil liberty.
In view of the concerns regarding identity theft this action is criminal.
There is no way I would voluntary join any site that would not allow me to remove my profile, is the site so bad and loosing so many members that this is the only way they can keep up the numbers?
I would warn anyone not to join as there are plenty of more ethical sites.

Read the ToS. You can deactivate your account.

You should always read the ToS before joining any site after all, you did check the box stating that you read and agree to the Terms of service.

Hello, David5. I replied to your email a short while ago, actually. The posters above give you accurate information. Deactivated/inactive accounts do not help our numbers, so we have no ulterior motive there. Quite simply, the figure which is important for sites like Mingle2 is active users.

In order to close out your account, then, you'll want to opt out from all email options, purge your photos, clear your profile, and deactivate the account. Once you have done all of the things above, your account will be effectively canceled.

I want to delete my account.... not just deactivate it. I want my information removed permanently. How do I do that?
Thank you,
B.

Just want to point something out....even on sites where you can delete your profile, your information isn't deleted from the data base.

The deactivation is deleting with the option of returning. When you deactivate, you will not show in searches and no one can view your profile.

Hope this helps,

Kim

Totage, is spot on with that statement. Every site has a TOU or TOS, which you agree to, in signing up.

If you purge your profile, your information is non retrievable. You will though, remain in the database as far as sign up information. You mentioned legalities. Well the bottom line is, there can be, and that is why your sign up info is kept. It's as simple as that.
