sportsnut69 - even if it occurs off of JustSayHi, please let us know
anyways. We still would like to take a look at their account and kick
them off if we discover they are a scammer.

Sportsnut69 -

Please use our "Report Abuse" feature to let us know about these types
of profiles. Just go to the user's profile, then click on the "Report
Abuse" button. We'll investigate and then ban the user if they're found
to be a scammer.

We absolutely do not want these types of scammers on our site, and we
put a lot of effort into finding them. But we occasionally miss some so
please help us by letting us know if you find one yourself.

Thanks!

Well, don't complement us too much until the new stuff is actually out.
There are definitely a lot of improvements we want to make on the
forums, and they are a high priority for us. We unfortunately just have
a bunch of other stuff we're working on which needs to come first. So
the changes are definitely coming, but to be honest, they may not be
here for a while. Just don't want you to get your hopes up too high for
a fast set of forum improvements.

They are coming though so if you can wait, hopefully you'll see a nice
set of changes.

We have nightly maintenance that goes on slightly after 2am pacific time
every night. It used to occur at 12am pacific time, but we found that a
lot of people were still on at that time so we pushed it to 2am.

We're working on a new maintenance procedure that should minimize or
even eliminate the downtime. We're also adding some servers which may
help eliminate some of the delays you guys may see occasionally.
Hopefully those steps will help clear some of these issues up.

Maybe try turning off instant messaging to see if that helps? I doubt
that's the issue but you could try it.

Does it happen to you on other sites also? There's nothing on our site
in particular that should cause this...

This is definitely a great suggestion and something we're working on.
We're planning on a lot of forum improvements - search, quoting, etc.
You may not see them for a little while though. We are in the midst of
moving servers which is taking us some time, and we're also working on
some other features first which we hope to release shortly. After that,
forum improvements are next on the list, so stay tuned...

OK buttons, let's wait a bit and see what happens. The last time this
problem occured, it was something on AOL's end that they ended up
fixing. Hopefully the same thing will happen again...

To turn off instant messaging, go to the "My Account" tab, then
"Settings", then "Turn off instant messaging"

Abracadabra -

The "chatter" you are seeing is just our instant messaging system
checking to see if anyone wants to instant message with you or not.
There's nothing nefarious behind it. If you turn off your instant
messaging, the chatter will stop.

Hope that helps clarify things.

Agreed Bearandwhiskey on the fact that this topic isn't a great one. To
be honest, the whole subject is moot - no one can ban anyone on the site
other than mods or admins. But perhaps a debate as to when a user
*should* be banned isn't a terrible topic to discuss. In this case, at
least, it seems to have led to some agreement that user's should not be
banned for what they say, even if you disagree, but rather for how they
say it, i.e. personal attacks. And that's certainly along the lines of
what we strive for as admins.

Just a reminder to everyone - the forum rules allow you to attack and
debate the message, but not the messenger. We encourage healthy debate
on all topics, but you may not allow that debate to degrade into
personal attacks on one another.

There are several posts in this thread that are very close to if not
over the line.

Attacking another user will result in a suspension of posting privileges
or even permanent banning from the site. So please make sure to avoid
personal attacks at all times. If you have an issue with another user,
use the Report Abuse button and we will investigate. That is the only
permissible manner to handle an issue with another user.

Again, we do encourage healthy debate and we know these subjects are
areas people are very passionate about which can lead to somewhat heated
discussions. And that is fine with us as long as they don't lead to
personal attacks on each other. First of all, you're not going to
convince anyone they are wrong by calling them names, etc. and you're
not going to be able to listen to someone when they are insulting you.
And second of all, it's just not the mature way to handle a
disagreement. And finally, we don't allow it on the forums.

Strong, rigorous arguments are absolutely fine as long as
they don't become personal.

Thanks,
Mike

Cool - is it working for everyone else also? Or are there still any
problems?

You're still getting it JaneBond? Hmmm, it's working fine for me now.
Can you give it a few minutes and let me know if you're still having the
