Folks - let's make sure to keep the discussion civil here, or we'll have
to start issuing suspensions.

Remember, you can attack the message, but not the messenger.
Defending yourself is not an excuse. Please re-read the forum rules if
you are not clear about this.

Thanks for your cooperation.

Hi folks -

Can I ask for your feedback quickly here? How many "fake" or "scammer"
messages are you getting? Is it 10% of your messages, 50%, 100%, etc.?

We've been working hard to get rid of all these bad people, but its hard
for us to know how many are still getting in. So we'd love to hear from
you guys if you are still being bothered by a lot of scammers or not.
We're just trying to get a feel for how bad the problem is still so we
can continue to try and improve our tools to get rid of them.

Thanks,
Mike

Also, please make sure to keep all comments 100% constructive folks.
Let this topic be an example of how we as a community can debate issues
in a mature fashion.

Thanks,
Mike

P.S. I'll be gone for a couple of hours but will read all responses when I get back.

Hi folks,

I just wanted to comment quickly on this topic. I think both iam4u and
txsgal3333 are right. iam4u posted with the best of intentions - he's
always been someone who has tried to keep the community together and
drama free. There are few people who can claim to have tried harder, in
my opinion.

But txsgal3333 is also right, and was just reiterating what Vanchau and
myself had asked - to keep the drama off the forums. She's also someone
who has always tried to keep the community together, with as much effort
as iam4u. Her efforts, though, were directed in a different way, by
asking folks not to highlight or revisit issues that have already
passed. And although iam4u's post had great intentions, it did have the
unintended effect of revisiting old issues and perhaps even creating
some new drama.

I have mixed feelings about these types of topics. On the one hand, I
think they can be a fantastic way for the community to pull tighter
together - to air some of the issues that we face in the open, to
discuss them, and hopefully to come to some resolution. On the other
hand, they often, unfortunately, provide at best short-term help, and
usually just cause more issues than they cure. They can be kind of a
superficial band-aid, where everyone says they want to come together,
but underneath, the real issues still remain unresolved.

I am inclined to say that, unfortunately, to truly keep the forums drama
free, we may have to delete these types of topics. Because to keep the
rules simple, we'd like to ban all drama, good or bad, and consequently
may have to throw out some good topics with the bad. We may also end up
deleting all "good bye" posts for the same reason.

We always want to keep the forums as open as possible, but we also need
to make sure the forums stay a friendly, drama-free place to meet new
people. And we have to do it in a way which requires very very little
time from the moderators (Vanchau and I), because we simply don't have
time to heavily moderate the forums. In a perfect world, we'd be able
to read every topic, know the background of every user's relationship
with every other one, work with all users to work out their issues, and
make the right decision every time about each post or topic. But
instead, we're able to read about 1% of the topics and have to make a
snap decision each time on what to delete. Keeping the rules simple and
clear helps us make sure the decisions we make are also simple.

But what do you guys think? Let us know what your opinion is about
these issues. I've already indicated which direction we're leaning, but
we always love to hear what you think.

And many thanks to both iam4u and txsgal3333 for their ongoing efforts
to keep JustSayHi the best site on the net.

Thanks all,
Mike

Folks -

We had a bug where who's viewed me wasn't getting cleaned out after 30
days. We fixed the bug, and Who's Viewed me now accurately shows who's
viewed you within the last 30 days.

Sorry for the confusion.

For those people who aren't getting a response, can you just let us know
how many people you've mailed? Just trying to get a sense of how low
the response rate is.

Also, we're working hard to get more and more people onto the site so
that everyone has more people to interact with in their area. If you
want, you can help us spread the word by telling your friends about
site! The more users we have, the better it is for everyone.

Thanks!

Hi Oceans -

Yes, that's intentional. We changed the Reply function so that it shows
you the latest post first. Most of the time, when you are replying to a
topic, you're replying to the last post, so we wanted to move that post
to the top so that it was easier to see.

Also, we're working on some functions where you'll be able to see all
the threads you've posted to recently in one place, as well as see what
threads other users are posting on.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Keep it coming!

Hi folks - thanks for the feedback. We'll definitely reconsider the
times on the front page and either change them back to "X seconds ago"
or make them adjust to your time zone. Might take us a bit to make that
change though so please bear with us in the meantime.

Thanks again for the comments - we love to hear from you guys so please
let us know if you have any other feedback.

OK the main summary page should now be updating properly and always
reflect the most recent post.

I think that fixes all of the issues we're aware of. Is anyone else
seeing anything strange still going on on the forums? If so, please let
us know!

Our sincere apologies for the issues folks. Hopefully everything is
taken care of now. Thanks everyone for your patience.

Yeah thanks Catch. Definitely there were some people who were "seeing
double" because people actually were posting twice, mainly because
they'd post in another section and wouldn't see it because it had
mistakenly posted to General instead due to the bug.

So the post that you thought was deleted actually wasn't - it was just
posted on the 2nd copy of the thread.

I'm still working on the main summary page not updating correctly, and I
also hear everyone's feedback on the Pacific Standard Time stuff being
confusing. We'll see what we can do in terms of either making it more
clear or changing it back.

Does anyone see any other issues?

Hi folks,

So I see now that there were some issues with the changes we made last
night. I think I fixed one of the problems - new topics not getting
posted to the right category and instead going to General Discussion.
Topics should now be getting posted to the right category - if that's
not happening, please let me know and we'll get it fixed.

I'm also working on the main forum page getting updated correctly.
Hopefully you'll see a fix for that soon.

There was one other bug were someone was suggesting that there were
duplicate topics and posts being seen? Is anyone else seeing that? I
don't see any issue with that on my own computer, but if you guys are
seeing it, can you describe in a little more detail what's happening?
We'll make sure to get that fixed also.

If you see any other problems, please let us know. Sorry about all
these issues. Hopefully everything will be back to normal shortly.

Thanks for your patience.

OK looks like everything went ok. We made a few minor changes to the
forums. For example, when you reply to a topic, you'll now see the
posts you are replying to in reverse order, i.e. last post first.

There's a lot of other changes that are "behind the hood" so you
shouldn't notice too many major changes. But if you encounter any
unusual issues on the forums, please let us know so that we can make
sure everything is working properly.

Thanks, and hope you are all enjoying the site!

Hi folks,

Just a quick FYI: the site will be down for maintenance tonight for
about an hour (hopefully). We'll probably start the work at around 10PM
or 11PM Pacific time. I'll provide a more specific time as everything
firms up.

Thanks,
Mike

Greeneyes - you can use your message filters to limit what age range of
people can contact you. Go to the "Mail" tab, then click on "filters".
