Sanford and Son

When the only "Juice" in your favorite sportsman was last night's beer and whiskey.
When you were shocked that any celeb (sport or Hollywierd) was caught in some scandal.
When you could walk to the corner store, even though it was a mile away.
When you knew the name of EVERY person on your street, and knew when they had company over, and usually knew them too.
When having a two year old car was doing really well.
When people actually used the kitchen tables for meals, and your Mom would tell you to keep your elbows off the table.
When Mom would give you little gems like "You never know when you'll be in an accident, so make sure your underwear are clean".
When the tv was turned off before sitting down for a meal, unless Dad's favorite team, or Mom's favorite show/movie was on.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh.. The years before seatbelts, plastic helmets, Mini Vans, computers, portable phones, digital tvs.. Those were the good old days.

When, instead of texting you,(or interupting you on X-box), Mom would call out the front door for you to get home. The days when you'd go outside after breakfast, and come home at lunchtime, and then be lost again till dinner. You'd drink out of the hose on the side of the house, and round up stray pop bottles for the ten cents you'd get back.
When the only trading cards had Mickey Mantle, or Pete Rose's faces on them. When the weatherman only knew what you knew. When Dad would threaten to turn the car around if ya didn't behave, and you wished there was some way to watch a movie in the backseat.

My Mom passed away when I was 21, and her wake and funeral were held at the chapel at her work (a large hospital). She had worked there on and off for 15 years or so, and my Dad worked there for about 20 years at the time. The services were standing room only, as just about every employee showed up out of respect for them both. (It was a County run facility south of Chicago). There were over 1,400 names in the registry. We were flabbergasted by the huge volume of people..

I miss you Mom and Dad.. tears   tears

you go to the services normally for the living not the dead...

Yes, very true. As an ex-cop, and ex-soldier, I've gone to many wakes and funerals for people I don't know, just out of respect for the position that they held. In my other jobs, I have gone to services for my co-workers departed family/friends just out of respect for the person that I worked with.

Have any get together on a day a week or so after the funeral, so that your colleague can spend time with his family.

Just by going, you're showing your co-worker, and his family that they are in your thoughts, and on your mind in their time of loss.

I see my chest because the mirror is too low, and I'm 6'4".

But when I'm shaving, I see an older, wiser version of the pain in the *** kid I was 20+ years ago.

I'm wondering what my role is in all of this.. I moved down to southern Louisiana in November from Chicago, and first, N.O. wins the Super Bowl, now the Hawks win the Cup.. Am I good luck, or what?? Maybe now the Cubs will win the World Series...

Yeah, right.. Not in my lifetime..

I was born and raised in Chicago by one parent from California, and the other by Midway airport(Dad). (Dem guys, dose tables, Da Bears). He couldn't even say the name Mom picked out for me, Brian.. (He said Brine), so she named me John.

I speak both Spanish, and German, and I live in the bayous of Louisiana. I have the accent down here. They all sound alike, and I'm the foreigner, aka.. DAMNED Yankee.

Man, a lady with a southern accent.. Just does things to me.. drool  drool

My first dog was a female mutt named Snorky. She never did anything wrong, like chew, or doodie in the house, or run away. We got her when I was in the 2nd grade. She passed away when I was in boot camp, but my parents held off telling me until I graduated.

My first dog as an adult was a half Miniature Shephard, half something that my first wife and I bought at the flea market in Waco. We named her Reject (cuz she wasn't wanted by her owner, and cuz she was the last dog sold). We loved her to death.

My first dog I bought after she and I broke up was a pound-found full-sized Doberman, which I named Jackson. His tail was cropped, but they left his ears long. I was stationed at Ft. Polk when I bought him on post. Something told me to go to the pound on Monday, so when I went into the cage area, Jackson was the only dog that wasn't yapping his fool head off. I asked if I could enter his cage, and the lady said to be careful, she thought he was a beaten dog. I was very careful, and just sat on the ground next to him for the rest of my lunch hour. I went back everyday to see him, and he finally came up to me on Thursday. On Friday, when I walked into the cages, Jackson was standing at his door, looking right at me. I brought him out of the cage, and as I went to put his new collar and chain on him, he attacked me with kisses.

My girlfriend and I lived in a small town south of the army base, and in the summer, would leave the main door open, and leave the screen door closed. He'd let himself out of the house to do his business, and let himself in when he needed food or water.

She still says he was just my dog..

Man, I'm amazed by the warm fuzzies coming over me right now. I miss those dogs-o-mine.

I'm from the same hometown that boasts 2 different bands as local boys. Two guys from Disturbed, and the entire band The Tossers are from my hometown. I love both bands. Along with classical, country, some new age-like Enigma, all Celtic music, most everything written by Sousa (sp?), and all sorts of rock. I have been called ecclectic on numerous occasions.

I know Disturbed but never heard of The Tossers...at least I don't think. What's Celtic music?

Celtic is Irish, Scottish, and Welsh music.

The world as we know it would be doomed if an alligator mated with an elephant.
