Hi Miss Moon...
![]() That's way cool and you should pick back up with your projects. I believe in getting into the "zone" with that sort of thing... Very theraputic... I've recently began picking up and assembling assorted tools and materials to check out whether or not I like doing stained glass. I have a friend who does it semi-proffesionally, and she's encouraging me to re-create some landscape drawings that I made a long time ago and transferring them into stained glass. I've bought a few how-to books so when the weather turns too cold to be outside, I'll give it a go, I think... ![]() |

I don't believe in striking children under any circumstances so it's a given that it would seem criminally wrong to me. I'm not one of those that pines for the "good old days" when children were subject to corporal punishment from their parents even, let alone a complete stranger.
If it bothers someone so very much to hear a child cry, yell, scream or indulge in a tantrum, walk away... It's a free country. My philosophy is that there's almost always a third alternative to any given situational problem. #1 Ignore the tantrum and mind your own business... (don't you have problems of your own to fret about?) #2 Complain to the parent in the far fetched hope that they can sooth the child. (I admit some parents tune it out and may be oblivious to the effect the crying/acting out of their kids but there could be a good reason beyond their immediate control) #3 Buy and use earplugs. Not to make this reply overly long but I'd like to share a story I read in "The 7 habits of highly effective people" It goes like this: A regular commuter takes the same bus to and from work everyday. He's used to enjoying his coffee and newspaper peacefully without major distractions and feels that it's his right to make his commute on public transportation without being interrupted by other passengers. One day the bus stops along the route and picks up a man and his 4 kids outside of a hospital. The man boards himself & the kids and sits down. The kids (as kids are want to do) begin playing, running up the isle and acting up a little. This activity begins to aggravate and upset some of the other passengers. The regular commuter begins to get really peeved and decides to confront the father of the unruly kids. He approaches the seemingly oblivious dad, who's not paying the desired attention and discipline to his kids, and states "excuse me sir but don't you even care that your kids are causing commotion and are highly dispruptive to our normally peaceful commute?" The dad, who seems dour and unaware, looks up and responds apologetically "Oh...I'm so sorry..." He lowers his voice to almost a whisper and goes on to explain " You see, we've just come from the hospital where their mom has passed away suddenly from an undiagnosed brain tumor and I'm trying to think of how I'm going to tell the kids that their mom won't be coming home again". The moral to the story is that sometimes the percieved slights we endure to live on this planet have very good justifications. jmo |

Hi Ms Ruth, ![]() long time-no chat ![]() I'm a follower of Christ, as you may remember, but I only relate his teachings to myself and myself alone. Some may find contradiction in that because of "hell-fire and brimstone" paridigms of some self annoited gospel preachings that claim to know the mind of God. I do NOT know God's mind. I only know what my heart percieves to be real as it pertains to my own life and ultimate destiny. I fully admit that for all I know, I'm caught up in a myth, BUT!, then again since I trust my heart more than my mind (sue me), I find it wholly and completely reasonable and correct to percieve Christ's teachings as supernatural(FOR ME). As long as any given individual or group is capable and willing to show compassion as well as restraint, they have my respect and my willingness to work along side of them to make this world a better place. I certainly have never believed for even a second that someone else is eternally doomed unless they subscribe to my faith. Again, some may think that wishy washy at best, or even heritic at worst, but simply put, Jesus was the gentle teacher. He didn't go around damning folks...He merely tried to light the way for those who choose to follow in his path. ![]() Hi Allen! ![]() It has been a long time! ![]() I understand your personal beliefs. I was wondering about your perception of what pagans believe. When you hear the word "pagan" do you thing of "devil worshiper" or some other negative connotation? This thread is more of a survey to see if people still have, in general, a negative picture of pagansim in their minds. Well, I like to think that I should judge the action and not the person (or people). I don't know much about paganism and I know even less about devil worshipers. I'm glad that I live in a land where I'm free to pursue my own beliefs and I cringe everytime I hear of someone else being put down for theirs. My perception is that no matter what you (or I) believe in concerning the spitual realm, only time will tell and in the meantime we should focus on what makes us similar instead of on what makes us different. If one's belief system causes them to feel it's okay to adopt selfish attitudes, then it's negative, but if it encourages them to have compassion and mercy,of course, it's positive. |
