Reaching

The end of the day
lingered
like a long
slow
lover’s kiss
an intoxicating melody of colors and shadows
swaying
deliberately
as the soul’s thoughts
drift into relaxation’s melancholy

The wind’s serenity
plays the music
the soul aches for
as lover’s reach out to grasp each note
but some things are meant to be held
only by the eyes

And as the quiet intensity
of time
fades into the cover of night
wishes begin searching
for heaven’s first light
hoping
that the last impression of the long day
is what love can be . . . beautiful

Val

Raindrop apologetic obsessions.
Perplexed mysteries regress into bewildered torment.
Contrite acid trips, meltdown exasperatedly.
Time consumes her tarnished rambunctious soul.
Twerking ridiculously, blind sunset humiliation.
Victimized animation, relinquishing graffiti tears.
Persecuted slave chained to a misinterpreted melody.
Freedom becomes a pessimistic demoralized dream.
Lifes hysterical ferris wheel, suspended between heaven & hell.
She's got a ticket to ride, but I'm ok.
Silverspoon nerd lost in a zealous Social Media.
Her sabotaged exploited heroin homecoming .
Vals' alluring exuberant suicidal addictions.

Admiring the Sun

At my age
today
feels just like yesterday
or the day before
and the day before that day
they’re all the same

I have the same routine
grab the paper
and find my place by the window
to some folks
I know it looks as if I’m a catatonic staring out into oblivion
a decrepit old man
waiting
while watching time play out its destiny

But I’m not as bitter
as they think I am
and I ain’t lingering around waiting
for time’s slow hands
to play out my destiny
no
none of that
I just like admiring the sun
and how warm it feels against my skin
I like how
in its solace
I remember the many years ago
before the best of my soul passed away
when the children were born
then the grandchildren

And at my age
if today feels like those days
then it’s good day
to still be alive and well

Missing Footprints

The cold rain
played a melody of love
and a lover’s pain
as the rocky shoreline swayed to the wind’s gust
as wave
after wave
crashed upon the sand
only to withdraw into a blue that was deeper than my emptiness
washing away with its retreat
any semblance of a beautiful past

I usually reserve these walks
for those days
when the sun would come out to play
and I could hold her hand
and together
we would discover
love
and romance
with each step along the way to happiness
but the sun hasn't come around lately
not since she left me
to wonder out here alone

some days during the week I take a city bus
I watch her as she climbs on board
tugging a handcart stuffed with a filthy red Miller's Lite tote bag
I instantly hurt within myself for her
she's wearing dirty black jogging pants, a purple sports bra and runners
a scar runs up from underneath the waist of her pants to the top of the bra
she runs a finger up and down the scar, up and down, down and up
she has burns, scars, raised edges on her exposed skin
a man stands up and gives her his seat
she nudges my foot with her cart
she says 'sorry' and smiles at me
I return the smile saying 'it's okay'
her teeth are darkened yellow, crooked, some missing
I think her age could be thirty
she's so thin, there's no where to hide
I look at passengers, I see disdain, judgement, distaste
it looks as if some are pretending she's not even there
and my hurt for her increases
her pain has no filter

There are no words for how your words move me. This was simply sorrowful yet compassionate. Teasing you are truly a gifted poet

Behind Us

The top’s down
and well yeah
it’s kind of warm yet cool
as the spring’s breeze flows sexily through the afternoon sun
and into your hair

Slow moving through the city
music playing
loud enough to attract attention
and low enough so that you’re the center of it all
sundress
sun glasses
and a smile that glows
(by the way . . .trust me, I know I’m lucky)

Bobbing my head
shaking my shoulders
looking that way
and then that way
until the city is behind us and the beach is not too far away
it’s you and I
a Saturday sun
and nothing much to do but live
so yeah
I’m lucky and lovin’ it

I had the opportunity to attend one of her readings. It was an experience that I'll cherish forever. Her voice, her words, her being was beyond imagination.

Shivering

Sometimes
it feels as if winter
is moving slowly through my lungs
and into my soul
bitter cold
heavy
and as dark as the shadows of the day’s light

Sometimes
when it is this cold
it feels
as if the world is passing me by
and I am left
shivering
with silent thoughts
that wonder
if this nothing that I have is what it feels like to be alive
chasing air
that will last but for a single moment
before time’s calloused hands
will once again
rip from grasp all that I’ve lived for

I find myself wanting to scream
to every deaf ear
that pretends to understand my words
but I am tired
too tired to care anymore
there is no way to stop the cold from coursing through me
and I want to weep
until life
is still
with quiet peace
and there no remorse for wasting today
waiting
for the never promised tomorrow

You Are My Star

Fading
across cloud filled skyline
is the last vestige of a day
unremarkable
until the time
when I’ll remember
now
when the cool spring evening
slowly falling upon the earth’s soul
and the night lights rising
one
by
one
until heaven
begins to resemble you

So I

The wind’s draft was cold
so I
closed the door
and darkened
your words
because they hurt so much
and I needed to hide
from the world
as I tried to understand

I wanted to be
more than just a moment
more than just a passing memory
while you waited
for a different tomorrow
at the expense of my hopes
so I
sheltered my heart within these four walls of loneliness

And this place
this quiet abode
doesn’t feel like home anymore
though it’s still similar to yesterday
and the laughter before then
so I
dreamed of then as I tried to understand
now

There Is Nothing . . .

Though tomorrow
was this unknown moment
set so far off in the distance
that only time understood when it would really be
something about now
made it seem real
as if it were happening to me
as if it were happening within me

It felt
as if it were this perfect moment
where the stars were aligned across the night sky
and slowly
one by one
they began to decorate the darkness
with a light as gentle as a butterfly’s kiss
until the world
was still
and waiting
with bated breath for the sun to rise

In my dreams
I could feel tomorrow’s warmth
reaching out for me
like golden rays of brilliance
stretching
and discovering
secrets
kept silent by the night
my heartbeat echoes with anticipation
because I know
that though tomorrow
was this unknown moment
set so far off in the distance
that only time understood when it would come to be
there is nothing more beautiful than waking up
next to you

I know your out there somewhere
The one I can show how much i care
I'll give all I've got to give to you
To make sure that all your dreams come true
My heart, soul and all my love
We'll fit together like a hand fits a glove
Making love all through the night
Touching, kissing oh it feels so right
Knowing in your arms is where I wanna be
Feeling like a new woman, alive and free
In my heart knowing you were wirth the wait
Together forever, I've found my soul mate

really like this!!

" If I " - this is composed very well and shows true feeling. This is a nice piece. Well written with lines broken where they should be. A meaningful, well written Poem - with feeling. I liked reading it.

Thanks, mig25. You've done well here. I agree with ' pkh ' - she say's it all.

One Slow Night Not to Remember

If I
asked you
to dull my pain
with sweet music
I knew
could not
and would not
last longer than tomorrow

If I
asked you
to play a song
that had no words
or rhythm
yet somehow
eased my sorrow

Would you
for one slow night
be the quiet
that keeps me awake
so that my dreams
won’t remember being the heart
with cupid’s broken arrow

A Thousand Cuts

Opinions
and prejudice
cross examine
then damn me
they cannot hear my voiceless screams
they have no idea
who I am
or who I could be
so I
grasp the sword
with my anger’s pain
then cry until the thousand cuts
bleed to ease the pain
to them
I am still
letters
on an empty page
the no one
who’s fighting an epic battle
with hollow rage
they see my light
as darkness
for the blind eye
believes
only the truth
born from a truthful lie
and that lie
that truth
their words
define me
but not my soul
for the impending storm’s reign
protects me
