Folks, Serena was penalized for her actions.
So, how about just letting this one go.

When I put minority, I meant woman. Serena said it's different rules for men. I don't watch tennis so I don't know if it's true. I think people need to stop using minority statues as an excuse for bad behavior.

I also thought Hillary looked stupid when she acted like she was afraid of Trump during the debates. She was clearly using the "woman" card. It takes away from real discrimination.

congratulations on the success of your thread...the intent was obvious
to me when i first read it...you have taken a commonplace incident in
pro tennis (umpire/player argument) and turned it into a disparagement
discourse on Serena...from the gratuitous mention of Trump and the
coded reference of the *minority card* to the completely off topic
subject of Serena's lack of ability as a mother to her child...

and now the reference to Hillary looking stupid and her using
the so-called "womans card"....wtf is up with that ??

yes it takes away from real discrimination...you are well versed on
that subject, as you are an expert in delivering exactly that...

Politically speaking, "liberalism" is rooted in the word "liberty". Reading up on political philosophy from the past several hundred years makes this very apparent. However, most of the masses have not studied philosophy. They take a more mainstream and less educated approach to the definition of liberalism.

True political liberalism means preserving the rights of the individual. One person's rights end where another person's rights begin. Crossing that boundary means sacrificing freedoms to those willing to bully others into submission. Failing to punish such transgressions equals state-sponsorship, furthering undermining and eroding personal liberties and, hence, freedom.

By comparison, political conservatism is more difficult to define. Being conservative is often equated to maintaining the status quo. But what if the status quo is fairly liberal to begin with? Then the line between liberalism and conservatism becomes blurred. But the truth is that political conservatism is really about minimalism. It takes a different approach to ensuring personal liberty.

For instance, consider a laissez faire economy. It's often embraced by conservatives. And yet, it's actually a concept borne of liberalism. It insists on minimalizing government interference in the free market. By contrast, liberalism insists on regulations to prevent individuals from fraud or unscrupulous business tactics. In other words, conservative believe the best way to protect personal liberty is to avoid government interference while liberals believe the best way to accomplish the same task is use regulation to prevent and punish abuses against individuals. This is what has given rise to our modern definitions of conservatism and liberalism -- not social programs or so-called "handouts".

In fact, handouts originated with a third school of thought: progressivism.

Often considered a conservative today, Teddy Roosevelt was actually a progressive. FDR, his cousin, idolized Teddy, emulating much of ideas. And yet, FDR is considered the epitome of liberalism. But Lenin and Hitler were also progressives, as difficult as it may be to believe. The differences lay in how they chose to approach progressivism. Socialism and Social Democracy were just two different branches of the progressivist movement at the start of the 20th century.

To label liberalism as the mother of government handouts is to be incorrect. Liberalism simply absorbed elements of Social Democracy in order broaden support among the masses. By doing so, it began representing the poor and the underprivileged against those with wealth and influence -- a concept taken from Marxism and Progressivism. Social Democracy was a very popular movement around the turn of the century. It is part of what began destabilizing Europe as Imperialism began to crack around the edges.

I don't watch tennis. I've saw more about problems with child birth and missing her babies 1st steps. Why that's on the news, I have no idea. She definitely didn't look graceful on the news. But I'm guessing she will lose a lot of sponser money if she continues to lose. I guess that would have most people upset.

I Blame Trump.......duh indifferent

interesting subject, probably belongs in the "Sports" thread...no?
in any case....I have no doubt (nor should anyone) that if
Serena Williams happened to be a white woman this thread would not exist..

Wow. This morning when my alarm went off at 3:30am, I watched about 3 minutes of news. I was surprised to see CNN not talking about Trump. I agree Serena is getting too much attention. We will see if the woman who beat her gets the same.

you obviously have little knowledge of the sport of tennis...

Naomi Osaka is a 20 year old tennis pro who won her 1st grand slam event
the 1st ever for a Japanese citizen (man or woman)in the history of tennis..

She does deserve her moment of glory and attention, but to suggest she deserves the same amount afforded to Serena Williams is ludicrous..
Serena, is without doubt, the greatest female tennis player of all time
she is arguably one of the greatest female athletes ever and she
demonstrated class and humility by pleading with the raucous crowd to
stop their booing during the trophy presentation and let Naomi have
the spotlight on her championship day...

you can choose to remember her for this brief moment of emotional
outburst if you want to, but believe me, the unbiased people of the
world will remember her for what she is--a true champion in her chosen
sport...a woman of great ability, dignity, humility and class...

Her accomplishments, not as a woman, not as a black woman but, as
a human being deserve respect and admiration...she has mine, and she
should have yours also...

Shockingly few guys I have chatted with on these dating sites know themselves....never gave *any* thought to what their interests are..ot what their hobbies are...or what makes them *them*..
I've actually had some say "Well, I never gave that any thought.."
They all seem to be cookie-cutter...stamped out en masse...all the same...sad2
I have been a searcher, learner, inquirer since I was a kid..
Done quite a bit of introspection and know who I am and what I like and cannot live with/ will not allow in my life.

this waving

well, bully for the two of you...
i'm sure there are absolutely no men on this planet
capable of achieving such introspective grandeur as the two of you have..

she only talked to one white person, the head umpire..it was never about race, so you are probably wrong here...

if you knew anything at all about the subject i might lend some credence
to your comment..if you understood the coaching rule and the widespread
use of coaching from the stands, the frequency of the infraction being called on a player/coach without at least being given a warning first,
and the unheard of practice of calling it in the finals of a grand slam tournament...i don't think it has ever happened before...

the sexism charge is because the men have admittedly done far more to
abuse umpires verbally i.e. "you blind f*king moron the ball was in"
without being assessed penalty points or game points...
Serena merely said "you're a thief and stole a game from me"...
a classic double standard applied in this incident...
