..in American history more than 50% of women are single and living
alone--many by choice. Of course one has to take into consideration the
50 million or so boomer women who are out-living their hubbies by 10 or
more years. This was in the Houston Chronicle this morning. One woman
even said that she would love to be married IF she could still keep a
place of her own. OH MY,WHO'S GONNA TAKE CARE OF US!

Probably is if you can afford to support them both and have the power to
please them both as well. Also would depend on how open minded they are
to you keeping.

For me one would be more then enough personally. Not even sure if I can
handle that at my age.

You don't get it. Noone has to support anyone anymore. That's the
beauty of it all. Unless you thought school was a joke and you can't
read or write very well. Then you're in trouble It kills me that I
couldn't convey this to my students who thought they were going to be
lawyers yet couldn't understand a word Steinbeck wrote.

Sushi, you wrote "You don't get it. ... Unless you thought school was a
joke and you can't read or write very well. Then you're in trouble"

I didnt undertstand your point. Were you suggesting that with a
reasonable education no-body would be dependent on their spouse, and
therefore wouldn't have a compelling reason to be 'married' ?

Or were you suggesting that a lacking education leads to a welfare
situation where the state sees to your basic needs, and so "nobody has
to support anyone" ?

I think what she is saying is how wonderful it is for companionship to
be more of a choice now than a necessity. Women are becoming more
independent and self-confident. We can choose to be with a man out of
love, not necessity.
