It's been a few years since I've been there, but the first thing I recommend you do before you go is get a BritRail pass. The England Only pass paid for itself in one day (and was good for 4 days). You must buy these passes in the United States, though.

I got mine through a travel agent, but you could probably buy one online.

Now it mostly is virgin rail and travelling is quite like air travel Only cheap travel is when you book specific route for a specific date and hour at least 48 hour previous when you can travel reasonable sorry by the way too expensive for my liking and I only went home for a revisit

It has to be the most expensive way to travel. It is unreliable, unclean and the staff are unhelpful. Train travel in the UK is dire. Coach travel is cheaper. Flights from one city to another is (or can be even cheaper) Generally the UK is not good for public transport

I will be leaving for England in a about a month and a half and have been considering the best way to get around. How is train travel in the rest of Europe? I will be in Europe for three months before heading to other parts of the world. Any tips on getting around are most welcome. I was thinking of getting the global pass for the rest of Europe though I understand that the UK isn't covered by that pass.
