when you are involved with someone online if it is real, or do you second guess yourself?? If he says all the things you want to hear, and sounds genuine, do you second guess yourself?

I've done the whole online dating thing, and I say not real until the actual meeting process begins. You've got to know one aspect of the person, their mind....now it's time to see them in person and see if the spark is still there!

That of course, is just my opinion

It can be phony on line or phony in real life. What's the difference?

Or the other way around too! flowerforyou

I don't think it's about second-guessing yourself. I think it's smart to keep a reality check running at all times in the background. Unless and until you finally meet, there's so much built in your mind about that someone who seems/sounds so awesome. He may be, but it's not likely to gel until the two of you are no longer "virtual" or voices on the phone. drinker flowerforyou

I don't intend to myself, just hanging with friends. But if I were to get involved with someone, I think I would have to meet them before I was sure they were real. I've seen and heard some pretty weird stuff here in just a very short time. noway Be careful, that's all. flowerforyou

You have to second guess. its easy to read what people want first, and then write some common things to peak their interest. But, give them a chance, because you never know. The real person always comes out anywayflowerforyou

Yes, I do...it is human nature. I think nature gives us an inner alarm that sounds off when things are just not right...it is called intuition. I am not one to push fate. If something doesn't feel right...I try to listen to my inner alarm because I know it will be better in the long run.

I have met 3 men from this site, and all 3 were not what I saw in pictures online. Even after all the talks, chats, laughs, etc... Nothing came of any due to the fact of not being honest upfront. We still are friends, and they are on my friends lists, but that is all. There has to be a physical attraction to some point, and when I met them, NOTHING. Still looking.....flowerforyou

Ok, here's my story...
A few years ago, I met someone online. We got serious fast and by the time we met in person, we were already making wedding plans...
Several years older, and one fatherless baby richer, I have taken the hard lesson I learned to heart. brokenheart
I think it's a must to meet the person in real life before moving into anything serious...at least for me! It's a whole lot easier to be on your best behavior through email and on the phone. The true test is being around the other person in the flesh, especially when you have little guys who may push their patience...
Oh, and BTW, I have met jerks in real life too, so it really has nothing to do with meeting them online.

Well my inner alarm goes off all the time, and I don't know if I am doing it to protect myself or if its the real thing anymore.

You are doing it to protect yourself...Nature gives you this mechanism to protect yourself...I don't believe it misfires.

I think that you can have a relationship with people online..You can care/love a person online..the ONLY difference in Online Relationships and Real life relationships is you can't be..um physical..and thats not the most important part of the relationship anyways..willingness to be open and honest is.
