Age is just a number, but yet he felt he had to lie to her about it because he didn't think she could/would handle it. If a younger age just pops out of his mouth instead of his real age, you know he had it in his head to lie about it or he's lied about it before.

You can't start a relationship off with a lie, no matter how small. What is he going to lie about next? Can your friend say she honestly trust everything he says now knowing that he's lied before about something so basic as his age.

My sister is 23 and a few years ago when she was 21 she met a cop that would come into her work all the time. Eventually they started talking, he said he was 31 and had a daughter who was like 9 or 10. Later she found out he was really 37 or 38 and had another daughter that was 18. My point - one lie leads to other lies.
