Sharks are amazing, beautiful creatures. What might be ugly to you, is an amazing evolution of form and function...

People are much more ugly in my mind. . .

The sandpaper you feel is actually a sharks denticles. These are designed for smooth drag when moving through the water. They only feel like sandpaper when you rub them the wrong way. Going with the grain, a shark is almost smooth to the touch...

They don't, actually. New research has shown that the great whites that "attack" humans surfing is not because they look like seals, but because they are in the seals' environment and the sharks are "testing" to see what the "new" animal is. Sharks that have attacked humans in this setting before, don't do so a second time because they "learn" what it is.

As a general rule, sharks are curious first, afraid second, mean third.

Not likely the shark was trying to "eat" the rocks. They'll often rub against such objects to get to an "itch". Even their teeth, yes. Most likely it was in shallow water and reacted as such to free itself.

I love sharks.. I find them beautiful and graceful in most ways... They are also the only species of animal still around after over 400 million years..

Now do I wanna swim with one? Not so much....bigsmile
