Topic: Where's the character? | |
---|---|
A post earlier this morning has me thinking about how much dating web sites miss the boat on one of the most important aspects of ones attraction to another and that's a person's character.
Physical attraction is there to a degree and pictures help us with that as long as they are honest pitcures. One can peruse another's profile to see what they do and what they are generally interested in. Nothing takes into account the character of a person! To me, character is what makes a person stand out in a crowd, apart from the others. What is "character"? I guess I would call it ones inner beauty, the way one carries ones self, or the way one interracts with others. Character is important. How can one tell if another's character is that of quiet introvert or that of a loud extrovert? By what they write in the forums? Not a chance! A few years ago, I went to a get together of local chat room members (from another web site). I was so surprised by what I discovered in "real life". The most "talkative" members were the most quiet. The most joking members were boring. The seemingly "sexiest" were wall flowers. Yikes! What you see is often not what you get. So, how do we determine "character"? |

That is why meeting in person and spending QUALITY time with one another is important, I think. Too many are focused on other things. Of course, this is JMO
Have a great day. TGIF!! |

Until you meet and see for yourself you won,t really get the true picture. Sometimes that doesn't happen right away either |

Cyberworld is merely a stepping stone towards IRL.Very diff.2 determine this via the net.Though forum interaction gives me some clues(imo)

I think the phone gives you a much better insight into someone's personality. My sweetie knows I am a little more reserved on the phone than on the forums, but he's ok with that. I will be more nervous in person too...and he knows that already. Lots and lots of good communication is the key to knowing what to expect when you first meet...then no one goes into shock. I just don't know how to tell him about this pesky nose on the back of my head yet!

Getting to know someone away from the forums is a better way to get to know their personality.

I had to get incinerated a few times before I finally learned that the best course is to never automatically assume people in real life are anything at all like their personae presented on a website.
I will not make that mistake again.... As for character -- I believe that can only be discerned in real life, over time....and only if one chooses to be discerning.... |

WELL I'M A CHARACTER HOWEVER I DON'T THINK THAT'S WHAT YOU MEAN THE TYPE OF CHARACTER YOU ARE DEPENDS ON YOUR PERSONALITY, AND HOW YOU HANDLE LIFE, AND THE PEOPLE AROUND YOU. IT CAN GO GOOD OR BAD, IT DEPENDS ON YOU. |
