Ohhh.... We will see more of this but some who claim BUSH lied just won't believe it when the REAL liars show up. Especially when we really don't know what he believes... We should name Obama the "Too many "IFS"" candidate.

OBAMA PULLS ABOUT-FACE
SOFTER LINE ON IRAQ TROOP WITHDRAWAL
By MAGGIE HABERMAN
MILITARY STRATEGY: Barack Obama addresses a rally in Fargo, ND,yesterday, where he spoke of his pliable position on the Iraq war.

http://www.nypost.com/seven/07042008/news/nationalnews/obama_pulls_about_face_118400.htm

Barack Obama, who ran hard during the Democratic primaries on an anti-Iraq-war message, yesterday left the door open to "refining" his 16-month troop-withdrawal plan as he prepares for a Mideast trip.

But after Republicans said he was flip-flopping on his signature primary-race issue, Obama insisted they were deliberately misrepresenting his position.

At a press conference in Fargo, ND yesterday, Obama said, "I am going to do a thorough assessment when I'm there," suggesting he would base changes on meetings with front-line military leaders.

"I'm sure I'll have more information and continue to refine my policy," the presumptive Democratic presidential candidate said, insisting he still feels the war was a "mistake" and that he's going to "continue to gather information to see whether those conditions still hold" for withdrawing the troops within 16 months.

Obama's primary campaign was premised strongly on the contrast between his stand on the war and Hillary Rodham Clinton's Senate vote authorizing the conflict.

His campaign Web site still declares he will "immediately begin to remove our troops from Iraq" within 16 months.

But Republicans promptly slammed Obama - whom they're hoping to paint as a foreign-policy lightweight in contrast to pro-war presumptive GOP candidate John McCain - as a flip-flopper.

"There appears to be no issue that Barack Obama is not willing to reverse himself on for the sake of political expedience," said Republican National Committee spokesman Alex Conant.

As the issue caught fire, Obama called a second press conference yesterday afternoon to "clarify" what he'd said earlier, and accused Team McCain of suggesting "that somehow we had changed our policy when we hadn't."

"I intend to end this war," he said. "I am not searching for maneuvering room with respect to that position."

But he added he has "always reserved the right to do what's best for America's national interest - I would be a poor commander in chief if I didn't take facts on the ground into account."

The Democrat has been moving toward more nuanced, centrist positions on several issues as he ramps up for the November election.

Team McCain yesterday said Obama proved "his past positions to be just empty words."

That's kinda like Obama said he'd seek expert military advice on how fast to withdrw and how best to do it, while Bush just gets rid of them when they disagree with his opinion!

That's a very distant stretch to be called a flip flop!
He says he's open to refining his 16 month withdraw, not that he has abandoned it completely, nor that he has changed his mind on his intentions at all!

What he's saying is that he will listen to the military experts and then decide on how best to withdraw!

Unlike Bush (no foreign policy experience when he took office( who wont listen to military advice, but chooses instead to fire the Gen who disagree with him, and promote yes men!

Or like McCain (no real foreign policy experience either) who is merely a NeoCon yes man and will follow the same course as Bush!
