Getting called from the porch to get my butt home, and usually had a friend or two in tow. Mom was a fantastic cook, but never cooked anything hot(spicy). I still am working up my tolerance. We never, ever ate with the tv on. hot spicy food is the best, but you do have to work your way up to it. ![]() |

We never, ever ate with the tv on. We never did when I was a kid either. My daughter & I would do dinner in front of the TV one night a week, when "Dr Quinn, Medicine Woman" was on. I had a small blk & white TV on the kitchen counter & it usually started before I was finished cooking, then we'd move to the livingroom. After dinner in the summer we would sometimes take bowls of ice cream down the oyster shell road out on the marsh to watch the storms coming across the bay. |

Daily whippings whether we needed them or not!!
No, not daily.... but we did get the belt if naughty. We had 6 kids and a list of chores to be done by the time parents got home and if they weren't done, no dinner and/or the belt. But, family dinners were de rigeur in general for years. Wishbones for Thanksgiving. Devil horns in all sets of pictures. Curling up as a pack to watch things like Mission Impossible. Repeated family jokes. Stuff like that. Wasn't all bad. |

people no longer eat dinner together??? It's not uncommon these days for various reasons, maybe people aren't home or something or eating at the same time. Here often times, we'll often eat dinner while watching TV too sad to say, and at different times a lot of the time. that sucks, but when you say here, where do you mean? At home, with my mom and grandmother. |

Don't do a whole lot as a family much these days sad to say, on my mom's side at least. We all sort of do our own things really a lot of times, on normal days anyway. Might get together occasionally with others in the family but not all that often.

Very strict rules about Christmas. Only a handful of presents went under the tree before xmas morning... only those that were not from immediate family. No opening of gifts until xmas morning. Period. No coming out of my room until my parents came to get me. My dad would even put a piece of clear tap across the door to see if we came out. We lived overseas when i was little, so we had to decide what we wanted for xmas 3 months in advance so it could be ordered and shipped from the states.... and you WEREN'T allowed to change your mind!!!

Pretty much.... except for the 3 month rule and the tape on the door, lol. Of course things changed with the divorce, but they're all a bit older now. |
