While visiting my parents a couple of weeks ago, I saw an numerous political ads for the Pat Roberts vs. Jim Slattery Senate race (I'm in Kansas). The one that got my attention was one for Roberts pointing out that Slattery has about the worst attendance for votes in Congress. I guess my question is how typical is that attendance for a Congressman, and how does that affect job performance (besides less voting = less representing).

I would wonder what they were doing if not there for voting or otherwise known as doing the job they were hired to do.

There are a number of sites that will allow you to see when congress persons were present, what their votes were and other related information. Were I not so lazy right now I would provide a link or two.

Better to find out for yourself than to listen to all the super geniuses here, including myself.

I've got a site called megavote (which I believe is government affiliated) that sends me Senate and House voting results for the congressmen that are responsible for representing me. Roberts may have issues (I've never paid attention before this election), but at least he seems to vote fairly regular, even while running for office.

My grandfather's advice was to always vote against the incumbent. In this case a vote against Roberts. My problem is that the other seems that he will be no better!

Can I vote against both of them?

Each person must vote by their conscience.
Although he is your Senator, his votes and actions in Washington affects all of America.
My vote one way or the other has no bearing on his career, and I can't help you!

I will say,
I'm voting against all the incumbents in my state who have served more than 4 years!
