We are sending the military with aid to them. We are forcing the UN to do something about. We are basically sending a message to the world that we won't tolerate this from any one including russia!!!!

Thanks karma!drinker Fanta is strangely silent. Hmmmm. Its almost as if I had said "give the man the benefit of a doubt (Bush) because we don't know what is being done in the background as far as the crisis goes. Wait! I DID say that! Hark! I hear the sound of hands of blind and bitter hatred wringing in the distance.

So, here is a question for everyone weighing in on this.

Earlier this evening I saw an article reporting that Georgia's president said Georgia was turning over control of ports and airports to the U.S.

An official here in the U.S. said the only thing we would be sending was humanitarian aid.

Do you think the Georgian president hoped to further involve the U.S. by making that statement? Did he hope if he said that we would bring a military presence to Georgia?

The White House said they do not want control of their bases or airports. That way we can send in military with aid for the people. If russia attacks them during this pratice, then it will be an act of war from russia. The UN has to fo;;ow suit or disband altogether for not doing what they are suppose to do.

The U.S. has done some very bad things, particularly during wars, but it has never committed systematic genocide. Demonize America all you want--you can't prove otherwise.

We should feed the Great Russian Bear a cookie.
The U S is already over extended with Iraq and Afghanistan. We should admit that and allow Russia to reannex Georgia. Georgia is a lot closer to Russia than we are to Iraq!

I'd much rather apologize to Georgia and explain our problems with helping them than to have WW III.

I do not think that Putin will try to reannex all of the old satellite countries, just Georgia, so that it's oil will make money that Russia desparately needs. Sure, it's wrong and it's ill gotten gain but it's Russia's problem. We are a sovreign country. We are not Star Trek. Let's worry about ourselves and let the Russian Bear do it's thing.
