So I'm a server. A very good server if I do say so m'self. I know this because I've been out to eat, and I've seen the kind of service around town and I know I'm at least a notch better than the rest. To the best of my ability I do the same job for every one of my customers, even the old couple whose bill never totals more than $4 that never leaves more than a dollar tip (hey, it's 25% right?). It's a matter of principle. Now I know some people have no concept of what a good tip is, I don't fault them for it but what I don't understand is the customer who is full of compliments but doesn't tip well. Isn't the tip supposed to be a reflection of the service? What's with the..."You did an excellent job" and then less than 10%????? I just don't get it. Is the recognition/compliment supposed to be enough? Cause I'm kind of trying to earn a living here.
</rant>

So my question to you minglers and hi-sayers is this...how much does the service influence how much you tip? Are you a $5 no matter what the check total kind of customer or do you use some percentage-to-service ratio?

Been in your shoes...service means a lot and I'm a good tipper if the service is good. Wish everyone felt the same...
Good luck!

15-18% of the total bill is the current recommendation for an acceptable tip. :tongue: :tongue: :tongue:

If the service is at least fair I tip a minimum of 25-30%

If it was absolutely horrible I still do a 10%

I always tip about about 25% of the bill because my math is always wrong on the spot.

20% Noo matter what... Unless they're completely terrible servers. And unfortunatley... Yes, people do honestly believe that what they say to others is worth something... That's called a sad example of ego. It all stems from the economic downfall that the U.S. has become. Excuses are like Aholes... They all stink... And eyerybody has one. The problem is, that people are too involved with thinking about themselves to even realize there are others that need to try. I still do have faith though.

to clarify, it's not that I don't appreciate the compliment.
I honestly do.
I just don't understand the point of it if it isn't reflected in the tip.
is it supposed to replace the tip?
WTH??

I generally tip $5 or more even if I go out by myself, these people work hard and need the money, even more then I need it. So I always try and tip well for that reason.
