Obama: "Just Tax the Heck Out of People" [Mark Hemingway]

Buried in that 8,000 (!) word NYT magazine article about Obama's economic plan is this bit flagged by Geraghty at Campaign Spot:

“If you talk to Warren [Buffet], he’ll tell you his preference is not to meddle in the economy at all — let the market work, however way it’s going to work, and then just tax the heck out of people at the end and just redistribute it,” Obama said. “That way you’re not impeding efficiency, and you’re achieving equity on the back end.” He continued by saying that he thought there was some merit in Buffett’s argument.

To which, Geraghty responds: "Isn't it reassuring to have a presidential candidate saying he sees some merit in 'taxing the heck' out of something?"

DEMOCRATS, TAX YOU TO DEATH IF THEY COULD.....frustrated

*COUGH*

Have you seen how much the current administration is spending?

Did you happen to notice the size of the federal deficit?

What about the size of the federal government?

Bush is spending like a mad man. Look at the facts.

Our national debt is approaching $10 TRILLION DOLLARS. That's $10,000,000,000,000.00 for those of you without fully functioning gray matter.

How do you propose we pay it off? First, we need to balance our current spending so we stop contributing to the debt. Spending cuts will not completely close the gap due to the wave of baby boomers entering the retirement system.

It's out of control spending that's the issue and the destructive and wasteful war in Iraq is on the top of the squander list for this inept administration.

Tax hikes are not gonna fix the problem. Also, adding more social programs is not gonna fix the problem either (such as universal health care). I actually just got my first check from my first job and they took out 33% in taxes. Thats just way to much already.

Personally I think they should go to flat tax with no deductions. No matter how much you make you pay maybe 10%

We need taxes where they belong. No tax breaks for the millionare club. Taxes are needed, no doubt about that...what we should question is WHO we tax. Our country has never been so divided. In my opinion, there is an increasing "extinction" of the middle class. The truth is the middle class is below povertyline and the CEO's, presidents of all these multi-billion dollar companies have never made such of a profit as they do now off of their worker's backs. The division is getting wider each year between the rich and the poor...we need to help "round out" and balance our nation once again. Right now there is no happy medium and isn't that the "american dream?"

My 2 cents & a potato chipflowerforyou

when you speak of the economic problems of a country it helps to live in that country first..I lived 30 years in USA, I got a really good view of the decline of what was once a great nation and is spiraling into the toilet..Argentina has already spiraled downward and part of the problem is the fact that the rich are not taxed, the poor are over taxed but dont pay because they cant and there is no centralized, organization that isnt mired in beaurocracy to efficiently collect the revenue needed to run the country...

Oh yeah..best beef in the world...

I am really sick and tired of seeing crap like this. What does being a Christian have to do with taxes or intellectual ability? Why don't you all stay on topic?

Quotes from the bible were removed from this forum when they are used by me. My post pointing out the idiocy of those who claim to follow the bible was removed from this thread. So, I guess on these forums you can go off topic and bash others dismissing their opinions, and even facts and their person hood as long as you are a so-called Christian.

Check your scripture, those of you who choose to selectively follow it please. Live by it and get your own house in order before you try and tell anyone else how to live.

All I can say is ya can't get blood out of a turnip and a lot of Americans just barely have the money to live let alone pay more taxes.Maybe we should cut the congresses salaries to 5000 a year. They are all rich folk anyway so why should we pay them exorbitant salaries while they line their pockets with PAC money? You would save lots of dough right there.
