I wonder if anyone knows about converting to natural gas? Does this conversion run off something other than octane? Where do you get natural gas anyway?
I know it sounds dumb but I really want to be educated on it. http://www.aboutus.org/Cng.com.cn |

Here is a site that can give you background on the process.
http://www.naturalgas.org/overview/background.asp Here in rural Michigan many people heat with propane. It isn't substantially cheaper than oil although it is cleaner. I built a house there years ago and went with geo-thermal heating and cooling. It's fantastic! The initial cost of the unit was 10k more than a conventional gas or oil furnace but I am confident it will pay for itself in just a few years. My neighbors have a comparable house in terms of size and insulation. They were paying about $100.00 a month for electricity and almost $400.00 a month for propane heat. I was paying $175.00 for the electricity to power my furnaces pumps and fan, plus my lights fridge etc. A definite savings. Plus I can run the ac in the summer for next to nothing. I am a big fan of this technology and urge anyone who is looking into building to investigate it. |

cng vehicles run on natural gas
nature gas station are around but unlesss yer in california they are few and far between the nearest cng filling station to me is like 70 miles away to fill from our own natural gas coming into the house takes special equip at a cost of several thousand dollars the time it takes to compress a tank of natrual gas is multiple hours i actually check into the purchase of a 39 foot cng bus but it was not apparent that it would be versatile enough for the expense involved |

It doesn't sound like it is worth the cost. Thanks for the input... |

It doesn't sound like it is worth the cost. That's the challenge of moving to "green" energy sources. The payback is not short and often not direct to the investor. I'm considering a geothermal heating/cooling system for my home to rid myself of home heating oil, but it's partially a philosophical choice, not a clean-cut financial one. Of course, one oil shock and all the numbers change... Now of course if we had an administration that wasn't in the pocket of big oil... |
