Statistics show that the majority of homeless people in the US are retired vets. So if you want to be a part of that statistic be my guest.

I did 20 in the Corps. I know it made me grow up quick. It depends on the person and what they want to do with their life. Good luck regardless what you decide to do.smile2

Brandon,
I am not too familiar with USMC but am a veteran of the Army. I applaud your ambition and your loyalty to our country. Either of the military branches would be an admirable contribution on your part.
Explore the opportunities that avail you in each of the branches in what you would like to be your career. Learn the best MOS for you...and your recruiter will help you with that, but don't let them blow smoke up your ass by promising the world. Once you take the Aafes tests, you will know what you are suited for and can make a more educated decision at that point.
Take your time and do your homework on each branch of the military and you will find your niche'.
I wish you the best and God bless you for your committment to our Country.

I gave the army 9 years of my life, and spent 6 of it stateside, and 3 in both Europe, and Saudi/Iraq/Kuwait in Desert Storm.

I went in at 17, and got out after 3 years, back in 85. The economy really sucked down in Texas at that time, so after 15 months, I ended up going back in, and did the last 6 years that I did.

I got a 126 on my asvab, and could have gotten anything, but this is about you, not me.

I don't remember ever seeing a soldier firefighter, but I saw medics all the time. They checked us for all the usual crap that soldiers got struck with. You might want to try for something a bit loftier than an emt. Not to bash it, I have nothing but love for the ones I know. It's just that I'm wondering if the army or corps will use you in the capacity that will help you after you get out. You could get into the hospital scene as an x-ray tech, or many other fields, like dental assistant, or... who knows..

The air force does use soldiers for firefighters at the air fields, and with you having the wont to be an emt, you might be able to be cross-trained to do both. And the navy uses firefighters on carriers, and other large ships, so that might be something to check into.

I salute you on your desire to serve my beloved country. If you ever want to chat, just drop me a note.

sully
