I have norton and because I use AOL, I have McAfee also that
automatically scans.

I understand that AVG is excellent and is FREE. I downloaded it recently
as I got the Quicktime auto update from Myspace that was bogus and I
clicked to take it on... yeesh. I did not however get the avg to run
well yet. I pretty much depend on the norton and AOL Mcafee to take
care of everything and pretty much they do. I only get stuff now that I
am stupid enough to click through... my bad...

Try the AVG. Lots of folks swear by it.

Goood Luck!

Yep AVG is magic, I have Norton and AVG and AVG picks up stuff that
norton does not, AVG has a spyware app as well which is not bad.

Cheers

Yep, I've used ALL types of anti-virus software, and in my opinion, AVG
is the best by far. That's all that I use on all 4 of my systems.

1. Norton seems to after "Program Files" more, leaving the "System"
folders alone.
2. Spybot is by far the best as far as I'm concerned (only after you
tweak it's settings).
3. AVG is an excellent Anti-virus app... the FREE version is pretty good
but not as good as the v7.5 .
4. Zone Alarm Security Suite is the best combination of
Firewall/Anti-Virus/Anti-Spyware, it's just that it DOES tend to be a
bit resource hungry (just max out your ram) ;).
5. I haven't used Trend Micro that much, but I hear it kicks butt as
well (each to their own, respectfully).

I "*clean* systems" friends, and if I "can" assist anyone, I'd be more
than happy to :).
I make "house calls" for local jobs :).

One of the best ways to avoid virus I have found is to stay off the
hacker and porn sites. Also keep in mind if you don't know the person
dont open an email with attachments or go to links in the email.

kaspersky is very little known but it is a name that puts fear into the
minds of those at nortons as kaspersky has a virus library that is far
more detailed then nortons. They literally check for hundreds of
thousands of viruses nortons does not.

I learned that about two years ago I could not remember the name of it
though until I saw it again here. I was talking to an ex engineer of
symantec when I first heard of it.

I have found that the best protection is all of them. I have five on my
computer at all times. I can run one after the other and not play online
in between and they will all find something different.

I use Avast anti virus, with Zone Alarm for my fire wall, and Spy Bot
Search And Destroy. And I have never had a problem, They are all free
downloads.
