Is there some one on here that can help me? I run IE7 under windows
vista and it is alot faster at conecting to web pages than firefox
running under linux. I have checked my settings, and ran all the proper
'makes' that I can think of. Have I missed something, or is it just the
security under firefox/linux that slows it down. Also a speed test
reveals the same speed. I use cable with a DL of over 20MB per sec.

HELP!?!?

I have some really silly questions for you on this one. First off do you
have both programs opened and still see FF as being slower? Is it the
latest version of Firefox? Does it happen on every website you go to or
just a choice few?

The reason I ask this is being a developer I have seen times when it
was required for me to add code that was specific to IE and example of
this would be the conditional comments to make IE act like it should.
Firefox is supposed to ignore them completely.

Another thing to keep in mind Firefox is also supposedly more compliant
with CSS then IE is. I can tell you from experience that it is not any
more security built into Firefox then is built into any other browser.
Firefox however can be more picky with interpeting code that is
malformed though. Have you tried running the pages you are experiencing
the issues with through the W3C validation tools for HTML and CSS to
see if either browser could be getting hung up on errors.

Another consideration not many people are aware of the firefox browser
actually has a propiatary language you can work with that does not work
at all in other browsers. Mozilla's Cross Platform Component (XPCOM)
library for building applications with XUL. XUL is a language of its own
most have never heard of.

Net, Have you tried Konqueror under linux?

Yes I have tried Konqueror. I haven't compared browser to browser at
the exact same time. I keep thinking that there just must be some kind
of config that I missed. The pc that I am useing is a tri-boot system
with winvista, winxp, and mandriva linux useing kde. I'm not sure, but
maybe firefox just appears to load slower than IE7. I don't know, but it
seems that FF just don't load all of the graphics untill they are all
downloaded or something, while IE starts showing them as soon as they
are downloaded. I figured that FF would be zoom, zoom with about 20mb per
sec.

My firefox runs slower than IE too. I think I am running the IE8beta
(yeah) and it is as fast as always... FF (since I have had it) does run
a bit slower but not bad, all in all.

I just upgraded my netscape to the newest 8.1.2 and it does not run at
all now *sigh*. Figures... so don't even have that option until I can
take a look, I just downloaded the update this morning and get nothing -
it does not even hardly THINK about opening! So I multiplied my browser
problem! LOL.

I have no clue how to help. I guess I should have said that first.

open multple browsers side by side after each is done loading then see
if you see a change in the actual surf time on a page.

There is not only a propriatary language that can be used for
programming firefox but vista has its own world of propriatary going on
that multimedia sid theey hae a language for it I cannot remember the
acronym right now but it only works in visa not xp.

I can tell you that my ff seems to load the program slower then IE but
once it is loaded the windows of websites load at a pretty normal rate.
It gets touchy in either browser though when you get about 15-20 tabs
open at one time then both browsers start to have fatal errors upon
closing.

Use FasterFox!

Tools, Add-Ons, Get Extensions.

(I mentioned konqueror because i found Konqueror faster under linux than
FF - this is all version dependent, though, and I don't remember the
versions.)

I've been using Firefox for quite some time now, and I've found it to be
much better than IE. It just has some better options, and if set right
can protect you more than IE can. I don't know the fine details.

It may be a tad slower? I've never checked, but nothing that would ever
amount to anything, at least not on my pc

i use firefox.

if you are careful about plug ins and add ons, it doesn't slow it down
much. once opened it's great. I have a faint connection on laptop,
bouncing of satellites, and it runs very well.

I can't stand IE explorer. They tried to keep it the same and make it
different? lol

IE is known for bug issues, and crashing.

there is no real difference between safety and either one. it really is
the choice of the user.

other alternatives-Avant, and Maxathon. Both have pop up blocker
compatibility and multi-page browsing...

You also have opera and netscape of windows systems that are not totally
dead yet. You have safari for the macs and a few for linux as well. That
is just the big dogs out there you can actually write your own web
browser with JavaScript from the tutorial on webmonkey as well. THere
are literally thousands of browsers out there to choose from is all I
wanted to express. IE7 actually is not that bad a browser it is more CSS
compliant then any other MS browser. I develop for firefox at this point
because if I have to fix IE displays I can always use coditional
comments or Javascript if I can't correct the problem with XHTML or CSS
which is few and far between on those problems except one or two of the
more common ones like the double border issue in IE. That is beyond most
web users though.

People go online to see pictures and do not often get into the code
level of the pages or even wonder how things are done in most cases.

lol.

yes.

Netscape could have don't better, but seemed to miss the boat every
time. And, usually only really advertised to AOL members.

I don't know a thing about Mac. Someday, maybe. But for Windows, The IE
browsers are a continuous problem.
I recall when I first began pc... I had to repeatedly uinstall/reinstall
the thing. The scripting was awful!
It did get better, but because Microsoft is such a huge target for
hackers... the security issues never stopped.

Maxathon, and Avant both depend on IE but run independently. Maxathon
seemed to have good optioned and security along with easy multi-tabbed
browsing. Avant second.

I used to avoid firefox because of the slow load...and other issues.
But, the latest build has ben very good. And some kck ass add ons have
made it even better. No Script being one.

I have not been able to get Thunderbird to work for me in pop mail, lol.
I am doing something wrong, and the add on links don't work...
