Was this due to over-population or the animals coming into populated areas and being a threat to humans? If so, and since where the animals live there is so much snow (that animals can traverse better than we can), I don't see that there is a very big problem with it.
It is a sad thing that has to be done if they are threatening people. IMO... |

I respect animals very much.
Have you got some years of experience on the ground, here, in Alaska? The door is open. Come on in, take a hike for a few days. More people go hiking than return, so give it a try.
