For it? Against it? Bring it. BACKGROUND In March 2000, California voters passed Proposition 22 to specify in state law that only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California. In May 2008, the California Supreme Court ruled that the statute enacted by Proposition 22 and other statutes that limit marriage to a relationship between a man and a woman violated the equal protection clause of the California Constitution. It also held that individuals of the same sex have the right to marry under the California Constitution. As a result of the ruling, marriage between individuals of the same sex is currently valid or recognized in the state. PROPOSAL This measure amends the California Constitution to specify that only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California. As a result, notwithstanding the California Supreme Court ruling of May 2008, marriage would be limited to individuals of the opposite sex, and individuals of the same sex would not have the right to marry in California. Discuss... intelligently please.

I really don't see what there is to discuss. It hurts no one, in fact, it AFFECTS no one but the parties involved. Marriage is not sacred, it's a strictly financial institution, and the fact that the government denies that to certain people is outrageous.

As far as I am concerned any two or more adults who decide to get married, I wish them every happiness in the world. As long as they are consenting adults.

All I have to say is, to each his own. the bringing together of two people of the same sex will not effect me or this country as far as I'm concerned the government needs to butt out.

Please...if the institution of marriage is so damned good why is being married bad? If you want to encourage commitment why is gay marriage bad? If you want people to honor each other and their community why is gay marriage bad? How does two women or two men marrying diminish your union? If you have one? Go apply for a marriage license. Have a judge marry you. The catholic church does not recognize that as a marriage. You are however legally married. Simple right? So, why is it okay for a religious institution to dictate its definition of marriage to the rest of us? I was the first person in my family to not be married in the church. It was shameful for some of them. Until twenty years later when I was divorced. Hypocrites haha There is or should be a great difference between the legal union of two people and the religious union of two people. Why is it so hard for people to recognize and respect that? Why is there so much hate and loathing? Be honest you religious types...ask yourself...if God really hates this don't you think he or she can sort it out? God might be a little pissed off that you were so full of false pride and presumption that you decided you could speak for him or her here on earth. Last time I looked "Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall." If your faith is so strong the answer here is simple. Let go decide. If you really want to be faithful servants then maybe you should get up and serve. Let gay people solemnize their unions in legal terms. Would that diminish your marriage? I hope not. Said it again but I said it.

And usually that control is propagated through fear. Also I dont see anything in this Proposition about teaching kids about gays. Not that there is a damn thing wrong with it, so long as the parents have the right to CHOOSE if there kids will include it in their curriculum.

Hahahaha, I saw that one too... those kids loved their teacher and wanted to show their support. And that was a nice left jab that the kids parents signed off on it. Too bad the Hate-mongers just cant understand what equality and acceptance means. The more love in this world the better, so why is it right to legislate hate and intolerance backed by a non-tax paying religious organization. Answer: Its not. And the California Supreme Court ruled the original prop 22 to be unconstitutional. Which it is. Deal with it.
