There are a ton of recovering folks on this site. For ALL SORTS of addictions.

You don't have to be recovering to do the steps. Alanon and Nar-Anon do them too.

actually, in any addiction, whatever it is....the first three steps deal specifically with the physical part of the addiction...the rest of the steps are a "maintenance program", if you will..

I understand it, but I don't agree with it. You have to believe in a "higher power" ie "God". I don't & you do, so I doubt anything I can say would be helpful to you. If your belief in God helps you good, I don't want to disrespect it. Best wishes to you.

The higher power can be anything that you want it to be. It can even be a doorknob.

huh I am responsable for myself. No doorknob or any other thing you make up is a higher power. When people start accepting that they are responsable for thier actions, we won't need 12 steps or religion.

Nobody I know stays sober with a door knob as a higher power. That always gets taken out of context.
A higher power that you can believe will help you stay sober, is required.

Actually, the 12 steps lead you to responsiblity for your own actions.

I know that nobody uses a door knob for a higher power. It was an analogy. I heard when it when I took my friend to a meeting.
