I like the word Acts because it is a Greek word (praxeis) often used to describe the achievements of great men, and that is what I think of when I look at that particular book. - what the desciples did when they received the power of the Holy Spirit.

BOOK OF ACTS

1:1-8

This book notes what Jesus accomplished.

God is a promise keeper v. 1-4

Two promises:

A powerful kingdom
A powerful spirit

"You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you." – These were Jesus’ last word and is stresses throughout the remainder of Acts.

The Book of Luke stresses the work of the Holy Spirit and these verses continue this theme.

The Apostles were told they were to be witnesses but not until they received the Power of the Holy Spirit.

This is very true.....and the powers of the Holy Spirit they do get....gives then an array of gifts by which they bring people to the Lord. Which of course is the best part because all the Disciples do so in the name of Jesus Christ.

Acts 1:10-26

Read and thoughts...

10They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them. 11"Men of Galilee," they said, "why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven."

Matthias Chosen to Replace Judas

12Then they returned to Jerusalem from the hill called the Mount of Olives, a Sabbath day's walk from the city. 13When they arrived, they went upstairs to the room where they were staying. Those present were Peter, John, James and Andrew; Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew; James son of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot, and Judas son of James. 14They all joined together constantly in prayer, along with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brothers.

15In those days Peter stood up among the believers[c] (a group numbering about a hundred and twenty) 16and said, "Brothers, the Scripture had to be fulfilled which the Holy Spirit spoke long ago through the mouth of David concerning Judas, who served as guide for those who arrested Jesus— 17he was one of our number and shared in this ministry."

18(With the reward he got for his wickedness, Judas bought a field; there he fell headlong, his body burst open and all his intestines spilled out. 19Everyone in Jerusalem heard about this, so they called that field in their language Akeldama, that is, Field of Blood.)

20"For," said Peter, "it is written in the book of Psalms,
" 'May his place be deserted;
let there be no one to dwell in it,'[d] and,
" 'May another take his place of leadership.'[e] 21Therefore it is necessary to choose one of the men who have been with us the whole time the Lord Jesus went in and out among us, 22beginning from John's baptism to the time when Jesus was taken up from us. For one of these must become a witness with us of his resurrection."

23So they proposed two men: Joseph called Barsabbas (also known as Justus) and Matthias. 24Then they prayed, "Lord, you know everyone's heart. Show us which of these two you have chosen 25to take over this apostolic ministry, which Judas left to go where he belongs." 26Then they cast lots, and the lot fell to Matthias; so he was added to the eleven apostles.

These verses show a change in Peter since the time he denied the Lord three times. Now he is bold and speaking out, in His name.

Peter wants to make up the 12 disciples, as it was revealed in the psalms;69:25; and 109:8

There were 2 qualifications for this disciple. He had to have known Jesus from the time of His baptism by John and also to have been a witness of the resurrection.

2 men were offered as possible candidates and after praying for God's will, lots were cast.
Anoter reference to the mention of casting lots was in Proverbs 16:33

I was in the darkness
I was out in the cold
seemed nothing could heal this
this hole in my soul
you reached out your arms to me
held out your heart to me
pulled me back from the edge
thought I reached the end.

when I was drowning
when I was so confused
you you You Pulled Me Through
I was in the shadows
lost, nothing left to lose.
you, you, you pulled me through.

you gave my faith back
faith was so hard to find
you gave me my life back
you were my lifeline
the love that you gave me
is love that has saved me
your strength is what made me strong
You held me and I held on

when I was drowning
when I was so confused
you oh you you pulled me through
I was in the shadows
lost, nothing left to lose.
you, you, you pulled me through.
out of the dark
into your arms
into the light
your love saved my life

when I was drowning
when I was so confused
you, ooh you, you (pulled me through)
(when i was drowning) when i was drowning
I was so confused (when I was confused)
yea you ooh you yea you you pulled me through
(you pulled me through, you) you, you pulled me through

The Christian Coffeehouse

This is a coffeehouse where all are welcome. There will be no heavy debating on religious "stuff". This is a place where you can kick back talk scripture, share stories, testimonies, (my favorite) and just basiscally get away from the humdrum of the nasty.

I am your hostess Debbie who started the first original Christian Coffeehouse. And because of the nasty it was taken away.....So not acceptable in any way shape or form. This is a peaceful place that all can come to to kick it and enjoy the Love of our Lord Jesus Christ....

Great idea.. I love coffee.. Hazelnut is the best !!!
Hi everyone!!!!!!!!!!
Blessings to all.. I second tha Blessings to all!!t...

Hi Deb and anyone else who is listening,
This angel has a testimony to share. When I was going through separation from my x I had knee surgery and was told I could no longer continue at the same job I had. I knew what I wanted to do and was able to get myself into school and managed an associates degree with a 2.0 average withing 9 months.
Well, my x left me with huge debt and an increased mortgage (when I bought my house it was $250 and when he left it was $1700). At one point I thought I would lose my home and I put it in God's hands. I said if we are meant to stay in the home I worked so hard for please give me a sign that it is what you want me to do.
No one at my church knew what I was going through except one friend. That Sunday after service I was presented with an envelope with enough money to pay 3 months mortgage and some $ left over to buy my children a few Christmas gifts. The church had a garage sale for my family and my prayers were answered.
God spoke to me that day and I listened.
Just wanted to share,
Lorelei
