My mom's husband (my step dad)

he's a crabby old man (pushing 90) and if I give him a stupid gift he will say so. and he doesn't really want anything so everything is a stupid gift.

Golfy sounds good. Hmmm...maybe a gift certificate for some free golf?

He must be in good shape to being playing golf at 90.

One of those people too mean to die eh?

He must be related to my father.

My folks are elderly and are trying to simplify their lives. They want to get rid of things not acquire more goofy stuff.

So, I think they are the hardest to buy for. I've been creative in their gift buying for a few years now. Stuff that connects them to their best memories and family and some things that help keep them mentally connected and active.

In the last few years I gave my father a framed picture of his high school (a distinctive building no longer in Iron Mountain MI),his CV-18 insignia patch I had put on a cap and another year a model of a P-51 Mustang I built him. He used to work on them. It kept him talking and occupied to help me detail the model.

For my mom I made a photo album of her great-granddaughters, a St. Philomena medal (her middle name) and a crossword book and dictionary.

That sounds nice, Lynann.

I racking my brains as to what to get my parents. They don't need anything. Those are the people that I have a difficult time with gifts - the ones that already have everything.

my elderly rich aunt is tough too

but I'm in the will and she loves me so I have to get her something

she is allergic to any and all fragrances, perfumes, odors, and sighhhhhhh cigarette smoke

and she goes to the Holy Land every year and brings something back so she has no room or desire for knick knacks

and her house is full of exquisite furniture and art pieces

last year I got her an apple corer

sounds like a visa gift card may be in order

for some

and if they have money a card (hand made)or (self designed)

to let them know how ya feel about them

after all it is not about the gifts

at least it is not supposed to be

Go to your local health food store and buy her some organic or chemical free shower gel, bath soaps or shampoo, if she does her own hair. Make up a basket or something with a card that says how much you care. They worked for me (allergies). If they work for her, it should be good for a cool mill! I'll take 10%. Thanks. smokin
