"Alls Fair in Love and War."

Is there truth to this? OR

Is the above a mere myth created to appease the minds of humans and psychologically justify unfairness in human reactions?

I think its a myth...there is nothing fair in war, and to tar love with the same conflict and hatred is a bit of an oxymoron as far as I am concerned...what sort of love is it where one person wins and the other loses...that's twisted

Thats just it, nothing is fair, therefore all is fair, as in fair game.

Something doesn't have to be fair to be fair game.

Once "war" is initiated nothing is fair, to be fair would have avoided war. We try to place rules on war, and on love to try to make it seem fair, but nothing is really fair when it comes to loving or killing.

You are attracted to who you are attracted to, and war is a whole other story.

So, the cliche is actually a play on words meaning no rules or set guidelines. Hmmm, kinda (correction, pretty much) like parenthood - no manual.........

War has rules until one side starts losing then they make their own rules.
Love, I think has rules if you want to live as an accepted member of society. Maybe a person can do everything possible to obtain the one person she truly love but at what cost? If you obtain the one you love but become hated by everyone else in the world, because of your pursuit actions, is it worth it? Some would say yes but not me.

I've always thought of it as being a very poor cliché that people have used to justify revenge when love goes sour.

Why would you ever need to justify anything to someone you truly love? huh

Actions toward someone you love should never need to be justified as being 'fair'.

That already suggests hostility IMHO.

Well if you stop loving someone, and they don't stop loving you is that fair? How? Is it fair that you fall in love with someone who doesn't love you?

If a government decides its time for war for whatever reason, and you the soldier don't agree . . . is that fair?

Is it ever fair to kill someone? Even in self defense is it fair that the situation was pushed upon you to kill?

Are there rules to how you should love someone? Can there be given that love is such a subjective thing?

Can it ever be fair?

I think we all can agree on one thing.

Life isn't fair. If it was we would all have the same, won't we?

Let's start at the beginning of this statement... 'Fair'...define fair firstly.... so we have a reference point to work from.....

...then define 'Love'... so that we may see if 'Fair' can fit ' Love'

...then let's define 'War'... and how it fits with 'Fair' and 'Love'... so that we can then be on the same page when looking at the entire abstract....

'All' is a big word through my filters... a rather encompassing one...at that.

For me definitions of love and war and fairness and the all....

'fair' is a human word created to discriminate and judge, based on one's own parameters...

'Love' and 'all' are besties... made for each other...

and 'war'.... a term,or behaviour, created out of intense judgement, and sense of separation...

I think it's all subjective.

I feel that life has been more than fair to me. Far more than fair. In fact, I think life has been absurdly kind to me to the extreme.

However, when I look around at other people, it doesn't appear that life has been fair to them.

But then, that can only be my subjective judgment. Not knowing anything about their lives truly, I can't say whether life has been fair to them or not really. All I can say is that from my point of view, with my limited knowledge of their life, it doesn't appear to be fair.

As far as not having found someone to mutually love in this life, how could I say that wasn't fair?

I didn't even pay to come here did I? huh

Well, why should expect something for free?

I got life for free, and therefore if I get nothing out of it, I can't very well say that that would be unfair.

On the other hand, if I'm being tortured and enslaved to a point where I'm miserable, then I supposed I would plain that this is 'unfair'.

But then who do I complain to? huh

Clearly if the Biblical God exists I could complain to him since he promised he would take care of me.

But other than that, I'd have no one to complain to other than the people who were being mean to me. But they'd probably just laugh and ignore my complaints anyway.
