Just let it go. They didn't even catch that if Negro is offensive to blacks, then Blanc or Caucasian should be offensive to whites! Notice, how out of all the races, it is OK to call by their color only whites! I guess only blacks are allowed to be offended. Political correctness... These are the people that will do anything their government will tell them to do, and yet, they will point their fingers at Nazi Germany. What is the difference? Uncle Sam said Negro is offensive. Which part of "is" don't you understand? |

You know I am not even sure what political correctness is anymore because I think people are using in in confusing ways.
For me, I just don't like calling people things I know are outdated or discriminatory or that people prefer not to be called. It's not my place to decide for them why they might call themselves that and be ok with it. But I think I understand why blacks call each other the N word as has been explained to me by blacks. It's for the same reason gay guys call echoed f ag. It's a way to take the ugly sting out of the word. I don't know that if you are not black or gay or some other minority that you could understand it. Think of the worst thing you could be called... Geesh what would that be, there's hardly anything you could call a white person that would be so offensive. Or is there, and if there is then why would a white person not have some empathy. I think people throw around the political correctness thing to keep from facing their own prejudices and to keep from acknowledging their own use of words that are really hurtful. Does that make any sense. Am I just a bleeding heart? Just some thoughts....... |

That's drawing a fine line! Perhaps it was meant to make us look at ourselves and our attitudes about race! I could buy that!  I think that would be giving a bunch of writers and the producer a little more credit than they deserve though! I watched and I laughed too at the time. Now thinking back, sometimes I feel ashamed!  I remember watching the show and thinking how awful Archie was and I felt bad for Edith for being with him. Oh my God !!...Good night...ohhhhhhhhhhh for the 50's......... when the races had separate facilities? lol just being a trouble maker..gulp!! Happy New Years young lady...where have you been ?...I thought maybe you joined the Navy or something...lol...  Nope just doing other things like reading and spending time with my youngest.Happy New Year back at ya!! |

Yes exactly what I am saying, it's a way to remove the sting from the word itself. Now we own it and not the person who uses it against us. So the word no longer has the same affect it once had. Of course now it is more likely to cause intense anger rather than a feeling inferiority that the user intended. Same for the word queer, I noticed a while back that gays were calling themselves queers and I thought geeez, why would you call your self the very thing that .... well you get my drift, though I am not sure I am explaining it in the best way. People know when they are using words that are meant to demean, and using the political correctness argument doesn't cut it as and excuse. I tend to think that people that have experienced racism and cruelty are a bit more in tune to the ugly things people say than others. It doesn't say much for our society when we can't take the fraction of a second it would require to decide if the word is necessary to get our point across. Nogames, I think that is correct, I 'am' a bit of a bleeding heart.
