actually, the israelis tried diplomacy for months even years in the face of frequent missile attacks...eventually it has to be stopped.

the us benefits more from peace in the region than from war so we are in fact motivated to help stop it. however, after bombings in Mumbai, London, Madrid, NY, Philippines, Russia, etc. more and more of the world sees the hypocrisy of criticizing the israelis for defending themselves when many of these same countries would do nothing less if their citizens came under attack. so many are now acknowledging that the israelis have a responsibility to protect their citizens.
