I've only done karaoke when alcohol was involved, loads of fun.

Now, see, for me, it's always been the complete opposite. I've never had a problem with stagefright (probably from all my times with different bands), and I've never needed liquid courage to go up there. I just "did it".

A good friend of mine with a fantastic falsetto used to sing "The Lion Sleeps Tonight". Never failed to rip the place up.

That's great, Mr. Music. It sounds like you know more people who have found the perfect songs for themselves to sing, than those who haven't.

Oh, and I would like to apologize for changing the focus of your thread. Forgive me, please.

No worries. If it works, great! If it falls flat, it wouldn't be the first time.

There were some people who did karaoke on a regular basis , I would see the same few people at different bars, one guy in particular always did sinatra, he was really good. It was never my thing , but 2 of my buddies were in a band so we usually went to see them.

Best- Always that person you have to drag up to the stage and then they leave after one song.

Worst- That jerk you can't get the mic away from, and his best buddy/girlfriend who couldn't carry a tune in a bucket

Why is this?

Because it's like a drug. Most people have to virtually be pulled kicking and screaming up on stage, but after they do it for the first time, you have to drag them back OFF again, also kicking and screaming.

Haven't attended karaoke... wouldn't know... and 90% of my social circle are musicians (gifted ones) and artisans of all disciplines...

bad covers?

Goodness!!! I would be out of there in a split second.... nothing worse than a mutilated tortured rendition of anything!

It just goes with all kinds of people and all kinds of good and bad..
I love a night out singing,,sober or drinking a few..
But to say I sound good would be a self image thought of me. And everyone will always have a different opinion of anothers.
So I have felt I done good on many and ok on some and BAD on a few to...lol YOU can usually tell by the yells or no yells,,,wink..drinker

I don't anymore, actually. I was only trying to create a different kind of fodder for a thread. SOMEBODY has to do it. A guy can only handle just so many "WHY!?!?" threads before he implodes.

I agree, but how does one tactfully suggest to someone that they try a different song without it coming across to their ears like they suck? Tactfulness has never been a strong point for me (big surprise there, huh?). I just don't possess that "diplomacy" bone.
just say... wow with your voice i bet u would be better at singing this song"whatever song"laugh

Does it leave a stain when one implodes?

The best: Streisand's - Lost Inside of You
was sung for me as a gift by my new girlfriend when
I didn't even know she could sing. she suggested we
go to a karaoke bar in Missisauga and she got up and
dedicated it to me. then, she sang. what an incredible
voice!

surprised

turns out she (and her ex who was there) laugh were
local karaoke celebrities. but it was a moment i shall
never forget. she came back to our table and gave me
the sweetest kiss.

The worst:

OMG so many!
