DHS directive aimed at Obama's illegal aunt Government was worried about negative media interest ahead of election The directive makes clear that U.S. officials worried about possible election implications of arresting Zeituni Onyango, the half-sister of Obama's late father, who at the time was living in public housing in Boston. She is now believed to be living in Cleveland. ---------->>> Deportation order Obama's aunt was instructed to leave the country four years ago by an immigration judge who rejected her request for asylum from her native Kenya. --------->>>> "Like other rules and directives issued by the previous administration, it will be reviewed and revoked if it does not serve the best interests of the American people," the White House told the AP. --------->>>> Despite the deportation order, Onyango traveled to Washington last week for her nephew's inauguration. News organizations observed her attending an inaugural ball at Washington's Renaissance Mayflower Hotel, a historic luxury hotel, with her immigration lawyer, Margaret Wong. ----------->>>> Obama has said he didn't know his aunt was living in the United States illegally and believes that laws covering the situation should be followed. ............... so does this implicate bush and obama being in bed together??? and/or that bush knew what obama should have known and did not?????? hhhhhmmmmmmmm interesting very interesting |

I think it's possible he didn't know and if he did, so what? It's not like he can be responsible for someone else's behavior, family or not. And, he has said that the law should be followed. If she's here illegally, I'm all for sending her back but what that has to do with him, I don't see.

Well, working in DC, having worked in the legal field for 20 some years and having worked with the federal government for a while now, I can tell you, INS moves slllllllllooooooooooowwwwwwwllllllyyyyyyyyy, unless you're a mass murderer or something. I think it's more than probable that no one except some paper pusher in cubehell knew anything about it. It's doubtful that Bush knew or if he did, could have or would have done anything. If he did know and pushed it forward, it would look like vindictiveness on his part. If he did know, he probably figured it was better to just let the "workings of justice" take their normal course.

does relevance really matter
anything can be spun to make it relevant -------------- it appears that this is being taken as an anti-obama thread` i wonder why it has nothing to do with obama doing anything he was not in ""power"" or place to hand down a directive i wonder if those taking this as anti-obama are really all that confident in him -- if you think this is about him then you must think it is possible he is capable of it interesting very interesting |

Eh, doesn't matter. Makes for a somewhat interesting conversation anyway. BTW, to comment on the Obama supporters. I voted for him, mostly as I belived he was the lesser of 2 evils (great way to pick, right?). I fervently want to believe that he can make some progress in changing things, maybe that's wishful thinking, I don't know yet. Do I believe he's capable? Of course, he's a politician, they're ALL capable and I believe most, if not all, truly compromise their own ethics in order to get where they are. It's unfortunate, but we live in a society where that has become necessary in politics in order to get anything done at all. I'm all for changing that but I don't see it happening because a professional politician's goal is to get into office and stay in office, it has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with doing the right thing.
