So, I needed to go into Hollywood today and once there I realized today is the Academy Awards. It was a mess and I had to give up one of my children to park.

On the drive home I was thinking about the fact that I was oblivious to this event today because I don't have TV. When I moved into my own apartment a year and a half ago I just didn't get it and haven't really missed it. However, I do notice that I am not able to participate in some conversations at work because I don't know what any of these shows are and I do miss out on some good news stories. I mean I listen to the radio and read the paper, but I miss a lot of the details. Like the presidential inauguration. I heard it on the radio, but didn't watch it on tv.

Anyway, I've been thinking maybe I should get it. Anyone else not have TV? Do you miss it? If you do have it, do you feel it suck too much of your time or is it worth it?

you dont miss out on much, i watch very little tv. i could give a crap less about whatever dumb awards show is on tonight or how nauseating a new watered down sitcom has started

I haven't had TV since 2003, and I don't miss it.

I couldnt live without a radio though.

After I left home at 15, I didn't own a telly until the age of 33. Think life is much better w/out, never miss it when it is absent. In check it can be great. It is used, too often, as an anesthesia, companion and babysitter ... shades

Actually, that's what I meant. I do have a TV and rent movies all the time. I just don't have cable and where I live there is no reception at all to get free tv shows.

Most of the time I don't miss it at all, but sometimes, like today, I feel out of the loop.

NO TV here either. I have not owned one in 10 years and even then didn't watch much tv, it was for the original Playstation, haha how the years go by.

There are the rare shows I pick up on Hulu.com or movies I watch. However tv is not something I spend a lot of time seeking out, its for when my mind is too tired to do something more meaningful.

You really don't need a TV or cable much any more. A lot of the programs are now online.

I didn't know that......I'll have to check it out. Thanks! flowerforyou

One really good thing that happens without tv is that my daughters are exposed to way fewer commercials which has led to less of me hearing "I want that!" all the time.

Do have a TV, but with the economy the way it is am seriously considering getting rid of it and just having the internet.

Well, that's where "NO" comes in from mommy. But, it still cuts down on the number of times it happens. At least that has been my experience over the last year and a half.

Yeah, that's the other part. It would be $50 for basic cable every month. grumble I'm thinking it's just not worth it.

Got rid of cable. Which means no t.v. since there is no reception in this city w/o cable. Actually, that seems rather strange in a city this size.

Anyway, I DO miss it. There were a few shows I really liked to watch. You can't watched them online. No one is doing those shows online. So I have to download the torrents in order to see them. That can be a pain.
