Okay just curious on a computer under Disk Drives it list a C Drive which I know you can go and look and see what all programs ect have been downloaded and what all is saved on your computer.

Now the D Drive what exactly is within this drive and can you access it to remove any items in order to free up space there?

I noticed that my D Drive is pretty full not much room left and was wondering if in fact I can get rid of some of the items within that drive?

No!

The D drive is your CD drive...discs, DVD's, music Cd's, etc. You don't want to mess with this.

You try defragging your C drive to free up space?

What is on your D drive, exactly... out of curiosity?

Your D drive can be a secondary hard drive, can be your CD drive, can be your DVD drive, depends on what's on your computer.

You are able to view the contents of this drive, as you mentioned it's almost full - so I am assuming it either be a secondary hard drive or a disk in your drive.

Right click start
explore
click on D: drive
contents will show on the right side of window

Depending on how your system was set up you have 3 options.

1- It is a CD/DVD drive
2- It is an additional hard drive
3- It is a partition from your C:/ that was made when installed that either contains various data or a copy of your Windows Installation CD

If it is a copy of you Windows CD do not delete any of the data.

You can do this steps and find out wich disk has Letter "D" is it CD or DVD drive part of your entire disk or it second disk
Start - Run
type comand diskmgmt.msc
you will see windows where you can manage all of your disk but be carefull with making any changes
if you would have any question ask

Well when I go to the defrag program it shows a D drive and a C drive that can in fact be defraged. If I'm correct after looking at it closley it is a second disk that actually pretains to the restore feature. So no I want be messing with it lol. Was just curious what was within it.

Thanks for all the information.bigsmile

Ohh and on mine the E Drive is the drive for the CD/DVD

You can follow this chaps advice and find out what type of drive is mapped to what drive letter.

If you do not understand that then there is also another way.

>> Right click on my computer.

>> select "manage"

>> From the computer management screen select "Disk Management"

>> Find the D drive and read what type of drive it says it is.

If its a secondary hard drive with no "program files" folder then you can probably delete anything in there without causes system issues.

yep then its another hard drive, or a second partition on your single drive.
