Hi I have a question to all parents out there. I know someone who has
two young children and know for a fact that she has been seeing more
than one man who are not suposed to be around kids because they have
prior records like statutory rape.

I love these children are like they my neice and nephew. I have tried
talking to the mom who is very young, not that that changes anything.
But she wont listen. I dont care what she does to herself its her chose
but these kids are not even 1 and 3 and they can tell there mom if they
are being hurt. She leaves them alone with strange men.

What would you do? Should I call social services or the police? I dont
mean to stick my nose in her buisness but if something happened to those
kids because I didnt do anything would kill me inside. Please help.

I am not a parent, but my dad works for Child Protective Services. And
in instances like this, it is best to call the police first to tell them
that the person with the priors is in the presence of young children
that are not their own. And then call CPS to report the mom for
potentially endangering her children.

maybe sit her down first and tell her what you are going to do...be
forceful, explain that she has to protect those kids!

that's what i would do, anyway...and if she didn't wise up,
yep...report.

I've worked in a Max. Security Prison for 23 yrs. I've seen all sorts of
sex offenders. I have four kids and two grandkids. Which can you live
with the easiest? You report because you care and she gets angry with
you or, you don't and something happens. Then what??

STICK YOUR NOSE IN THEIR BUSINESS!!!

Children need a safe enviroment. Too bad the parent doesn't have enough
sence to protect them...you do! Call social services and they will
undergo an investigation. If you think they are in immediate danger
call the police. Both public services take anoymonious calls.

Hi Stephycats.

I've got a little girl and would die if God forbid, something happened
to her. So it doesn't make sense to me when someone won't put their
children first or put their children in potentially harmful situations.

I agree with what Esperanza and Lulu said... if you really believe that
these men shouldn't be around these children than it's up to you to do
something about it, especially since they are so young.

If you call CPS they may do an investigation and that actually may be a
good thing. It might help get Mom's head on straight.

i'd even go so far as to anonymously let the men know that if they
continued to come around the children, i'd inform their PO and the local
police department.

might be a short-term fix, but hey.

I have tried talking to the mother but she wont listen to reason. She
says its not my buisness and that since I am not a parent I have no
right sticking my nose in buisness that isnt mine. *It hurt the parent
remark did because I most likely cannot have kids. And I really want to
have children of my own.*

I just couldnt live with myself if something happened to those children.
I couldnt do it, I would live with self hatred forever.

living with self-hatred isn't worth it. You can make an annonymous call
to social services.
Maybe you should try that. I'd hate to hear about something happening to
those kids and you beating yourself up about it.

callthe police first if you are sure these "men" have priors, as you can
be held accountable if anything happens and you did nto say anything
knowing about the situation. After calling the police, call cps and
report it as well. they WIL investigate it thouroughly. And hopefully
it will be enough of an attention grabber forthe mom to get her to
straighten up.

don't give it a second thought...report it, it's our duty as adults to
protect children at all cost.

JMO, but I would call DHR (as it is called here) immediately - there is
a 24-hr number. The children's protection is tantamount in this
situation...they are the utmost priority here as they cannot protect
themselves...

Good luck, Stephy! flowerforyou

You never should have said anything to her. When this goes down, she
will blame you & might say something to her friends. Be aware & watch
your back. You should have reported this as soon as you had knowledge,
it is a legal moral responsibility of any adult. Children can not
protect themselves, they depend on adults for their saftey. REPORT
IMMEDIATELY

do not wait until tomorrow luv, and if you even think they guy(s) there
right now, call the police immediately. Like others have said the cps
has a 24 hour hotline and you can talk to them whenever.
Do not wait, as it keeps the child in danger longer.

dont waith for tomorrow girl. I dont know how it works in the states but
here in Quebec you can call C.S and have them put in your care by
opening a foster home. pleeeease get these kids out of there now, there
mother certenly dont look like she is mature ennught to think about
there well being, and they need someone like you to do it for them. And
call the police on those f***k rapist to be arownd children they will go
back in jail.

slightly out of context: a person can be guilty of statutory rape, and
not be a rapist, per se. they might have been sixteen, and sleeping
with a fifteen year old...or eighteen with a seventeen year old...that's
how it works here, anyway. and sex doesn't even have to happen.

of course, i'm not leaving my children alone with ANY strange man...let
alone someone on the sex-registry.
