What a load of bullsh!t from Obama, as usual.

All we need is for the fncking government to get out of their habit "regulating" the education. Let the parents decide what do they want in this or that school.

But no, his majesty, has decided this or that...

Who is asking his opinion in the first place? He should have learned to read and get a copy of the constitution, instead.

Taxes pay for the public schools.

Parents decide what they want in the private schools.

no they don't, the counties get federal money that is borrowed from the federal reserve. this i know is a fact!!!

I live in the city and some of our city tax dollars goes to the Board of Education.

only if you walk up there and physically hand it to them. i do know about city finances and i know where it comes from. that isn't even worth debating for me.

Because you're wrong. My property taxes goes towards my city's public school system.

what is the avenue that it gets to your city's public school system?
tell me detail about it. when do you give money specifically for that?

Also, state taxes goes to the Board of Education.

What avenue? I chose to have my real estate taxes paid monthly in my house payment.

yes i do hope he fails miserably!!!!!!!

Depending on what it means for Obama to fail...

If it means that he personally is unsuccessful as a leader, I couldn't care less, that is his problem, as a specialist in his profession.

If it means that he would fail to further socialize the USA...
.. you see, it is already socialized. The cancer is already in the blood, and it has metastasized. And there is no way to undo any socialist measures, it just doesn't work that way. This is why socialism is evil, because it is irreversible, all the way to it's terminal stage and failure. There is only one way, further into socialism, to reach the failure point sooner than later, so that at the least some lives will be spared.

With this in mind, I have to admit that while emotionally I don't want him to succeed, rationally I don't want him to fail.

Now that I can respect while disagreeing. Thanks Nogames..

WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama on Tuesday embraced a new approach to education that would reward good teachers, remove limits on charter schools and lengthen both the school day and the school year.

What is your opinion on the longer days, and school year?

My opinion is: "There goes the vacation time"!frustrated

In a way, I see it as a good thing. Kids that have poor parental supervision would have less time to be delinquents and roaming the streets.
On the down side. I fear more Gov. indoctrination.

Hello Fanta, Nogames, now we are getting some real men in here. I feel much better... flowerforyou

Thank you for the compliment, boo2u. flowerforyou

I, however, did not deserve it, as I have stayed out of much of this thread. I am kind of being "scared" by all the "octa-quoting". Don't know how to find the line of thought, when it's a half page post with a one-line statement below it. I am guessing it's the board programming. On other boards, the quote only grabs the last made point. On this one, one has to manually edit the brackets every damned time he wants to keep the statement he addresses together with his response.

I am not even aware of what has happened above to prompt your post.

I also thought of that angle myself, and agree, but you and I fear two differant things other wise. I fear religious indoctrination, but not to the point of irrationality of course.

Back to school!
As you know, or maybe you dont, but
I went back to school.

First-hand, I witnessed today's, American education system. Not only at the Community College level, but I have seen the quality of children produced by the Public H.S.'s.

I feel for the student. Life is not easy as a full-time student.
It is far more stressful as when I was in HS. Sometimes I am amazed at the difference in pace and work load.
The kids entering straight after HS are very intelligent. Almost in a nonchalant way!
Students today are pushed and I could imagine pushing them too far.

Now,
The year-around school schedule they talk about.
It isnt what it sounds like. The kids go to school for a semester, then get about a month vacation before the next semester begins.
The ability to retain what is taught and the transition between grade levels, without a 3 month summer vacation, are tremendous pros to the year-around schedule.
The retention rates have to be improved by 20% or more.
And I dont see the kids getting pushed to hard!
