Stupid Mercenaries and how many celebs are showing their True Colors.

Information e-mail to me by many Gov.organization

Yet another example of a media celebrity letting their true feeling
about the troops slip out. In this case, it is "The View" guest co-host
Ricki Lake (best known for a trashy talk show), who used the word
"ineducation" to describe why young Americans join the military. This
was in response to a question from co-host Rosie O'Donnell as to why
they enlist. An attempt to challenge that by co-host Elizabeth
Hasselback was slapped down by O'Donnell, who went on to claim that
felons were being allowed to enlist. This is not the first time that
such insults have been fired off, but it does show the contempt that is
held for the troops in at least some quarters of the anti-war movement.

This is not the first time such comments have been made by opponents of
the Iraqi component campaign of the war on terror. In February, NBC
commentator William Arkin, criticized American soldiers who defended
their efforts in the war on terror. Arkin also had expressed his hope
the troops who made the comments had been counseled. Arkin also raised
the specter of a military coup, and then referred to them as
mercenaries.

In November, 2006, Senator John Kerry made comments concerning an
alleged lack of intelligence among the troops and the notion that many
of the recruits are poor. Like Kerry's comments, which killed his 2008
presidential bid, Rosie O'Donnell's comments also have little, if any,
basis in truth. Every year since 1983, over 90 percent of all recruits
have at least a high school diploma. Many officers and enlisted
personnel tend to get college degrees (both graduate and undergraduate),
often paid for by the armed services. The claim that most of the
recruits are poor also did not stand up to facts. Most of the recruits
come from middle-class families. These recruits also score high on the
AVSAB tests (two-thirds of recruits score over 60 percent on the test),
another indication that they are not stupid. Also, felonies are a bar to
enlistment.

The comments from Ricki Lake, Rosie O'Donnell, and John Kerry are not
the worst things that have been said about the troops. Some scurrilous
and very incendiary charges came from Seymour Hersh, a journalist who
broke various stories in the Vietnam War. Hersh openly called for
American troops to be treated as they were when they returned from
Vietnam. Hersh claimed that the American forces in Iraq were carrying
out atrocities. In one instance, he claimed a video of a massacre at a
soccer game in the wake of an IED attack existed. Yet Hersh made this
claim at a lecture at McGill University in Canada. He apparently had not
heard of the Army's Criminal Investigative Division and the Naval
Criminal Investigative Service (the latter of which is the subject of a
popular prime-time TV series).

In a very real sense, there is only so much hypocrisy that the anti-war
movement will be able to get away with. It certainly is fair to ask the
anti-war movement how they reconcile their belief that they support the
troops, when they express almost implacable opposition to what the
troops are doing. These claims of support become harder to buy when they
come right after the person making them has called the troops stupid on
national TV.

davinci, you are funny, but seriously there is a difference between
propoganda and the opoinions of talk show hosts. I think we should all
write to the VIEW and have them put DOC on the show.

Hey, what a great topic.

well Doc...if ya do it i bet you surely will get a date outta the
deal!!!

just think...no more combing thru the newbie threads to see if "SHE" has
arrived yet... they'll love you ya know, the texas accent, the soft
brown eyes the wounded warrior... they'll make you the new poster boy
for the effort...you may get a private house and humvee so you can
fight off the papparrazzi...paid for by our fellow taxpayers.

some colleagues of mine that work on the Dutch airforce base are
contracted consultants for boeing...they come with the aircraft and
basically do nothing but get in the way of the dutch mechanics and sit
and play games with data bases all day....they get paid somewhere in the
high 3 figure bracket per anno

they were flown to texas and put up for 2 weeks while they were given
the full tour and red carpet of the base...a couple of meetings and back
to holland...100per day eating expenses 500 per day living expenses and
the cars and trips and gas paid for.....by you all , my friend felt
ashamed to use the money.

he told me of the young boys just barely off the plane and asked to
re-enlist, offered 50,000 cash to do it then , turn around and go back.
they take it and head off to the nearest humvee dealer which happens to
be in eyesight/ walking distance and sign their lives away...go back
and kill another day....

ummmm...... well I really dont know how to repond to some of what has
been said, so Im going to try a little bit.

Im reminded of a 1970's interview with the one and only Elvis Presley;
it was asked of him how he felt about the war in vietnam, and since he
was a former soldier himself what did he think about the protesters and
draft card dodgers...

Now Im sure that he had his own opinions about the whole mess but what
he said was prophetic (to me at least)

"Im not a politician, Im an entertainer, my opinion doesnt mean
anything."

As for me, Im a medic and a soldier(albeit one wih a huge ego boost
now-thanks). My opinions on the matter would be perceived as biased, and
would cloud any serious and much needed discussion on all the little
things that have gone wrong and right. Not only in the war catagory but
also with the rest of our daily lives that the politicians love to play
with, like pieces on a board game. I wouldnt have the patience needed I
think to have to sit there and put up with fake smiles or people. And Im
more than confident that the bleep button would get quite a work out.

as to set the record straight on a couple of novelties;
Doc
yes I do have a Texas accent, born and raised Texan which would present
its own problems.

my eyes are baby blue, not brown.

I know you see my picture <------ over there, dont think I'll be on any
posters any time soon, LMAO at the thought.

I drive a Jeep (needed for my steep and rocky driveway) wouldnt be
arrogant enough or liberal yuppie enough to go out and by a Hummer of
all things.

I like my Log home, dont think Id like some else that I didnt pay for
myself as well as I do it.

Tax payers (myself included) already pay my salary. Its not a lot but it
keeps the lights on while I am at home, as well as food and that sort of
stuff. If you want to pay me more though Id love to start that petition,
maybe it can be funded by cutting the salaries of some very over paid
congressmen.

enlistment contracts for the most part are four years long, some rare
cases of three years, and your occassional six year one. Bonuses are
only given to eligible soldiers in certain job fields with less than two
years remaining on their current contracts. I was eligible to reenlist
so I did, I am on the down hill side rolling towards my pension so I
reenlisted. I did get a bonus as well, a whopping 10 grand. the caps on
reenlistment bonuses is 35 grand, unless your in the special forces then
it is considerable. It is more cost efficient to pay a bonus and keep an
already trained soldier than it is to bring in a new soldier which cost
more than the bonus to train him.

There is a mandatoy one year stateside before returning to a combat
zone, sometimes though soldiers fall through the cracks and deploy
earlier if they have transfered to a new unit who was scheduled to
deploy overseas, but these are actually pretty rare.

Live to fight/kill another day or the big one--- defend and protect
those who can not fend for themselves for whatever reason, they are
young, old, sick, feeble, you pick it.

as far as thumbig through the newbie site, well - pat pat as she walks
by blushing
well okay think that does it for me, thanks for the posts, the nice ones
and the not so nice.

Alex-

you know Im not going to get all crazy about this.
Im not the one for champion someone else's cause that I myself do not
believe in. Thats not to say that I do not disagree with a lot of the
political BS that has been spread around the US while Ive been away. We
all have our beliefs, right or wrong we take a stand for something we
believe in. I am not a jihadist so I do not believe in the cause that
they fight for, I find it empty and full of hate. Tolerance is a very
pecular thing, it's supposed to show an open minded exceptance of
others, but it is amazing to me that it does not.
"Blue eyes even better", I'd have to say thank you, I like them.
But a blue eyed devil I am not.

I love ya doc, but look at this picture
<------------------
Read the banner red, one man does not speak for all vets!
No more than Rosey speaks for all Americans. Do these Vets opinion's and
voices mean less than mine or Doc's? I dont think so, and I say listen
to them. They say leave and I agree with them. My brothers are all the
soldiers over there, and all the soldiers who have served through out
the proud history of this country. The last Unit I served with was the
third Infantry Div.. they were the first to Bagdad, and have served a
combined time in Iraq than surpasses every unit that has. They are there
now, and for them and the men marching in this picture I say bring them
home. I guess that since that is not the opinon of many then it doesnt
count . aye!!!!

While you do have a point. The vast majority of vets have not yet
spoken or walked in a rally.

You see I want this war to end but if you pull them out before a solid
solution to the situation is put in place you will condemn the last out
to massacre. Remember the withdrawl from Nam... the minute you start
pulling them under the current situation they will be centralized and
all the enemy forces that are right now spread out and contained within
their area of influence will converge.

Hurried withdrawl is not a tactical retreat it is a rout or will become
one as soon as you start moving to the rear.

By all means pull them out. But knock the hell out of the so called
insergency first so they will not be a thorn to the pull out.

Ad, I read yesterday where the Iraqi gov was going on recess for the
whole summer. while our boys fight on the front lines???

Then today I read this little bit of news:

Sunni complaints prompted the country's Sunni vice president to threaten
to leave the Shiite-dominated government unless key unspecified
amendments to the constitution are not made by May 15.

The power struggle among the Sunnis, which surfaced last year, could
prove decisive in the U.S. campaign to win over significant portions of
the Sunni community, which has formed the bedrock of the insurgency.

Why dont their leaders put on a Uniform learn to lead like ole G.
Wasington and lead their country threw this ****? Why must Americans, at
more than 100 a month have to die while they go on vacation. It makes me
sick, they sound like our government, but then we arent in the middle of
a civil war!!!
I cant see it, Im sorry, someone over there amongst the Iraqi's needs to
step up!
