I do it to bleed the system...I can still get assistance from wic, food stamps, food banks, lone star cards (a Texas program), unemployment, roving church do gooders....

My comments were in no way directed at you Izzie....or any of the single moms struggling to provide a life for thier child when thier man bails out on them.

My experience is this...while doing reconstruction at a food bank...for several days as I worked I saw volunteers trying to give staple supplies to people....when they handed them a bag of beans or rice it was.."I don't want that..where are the Oreo's?"

seriously....by the end of that week I lost a great deal of compassion.

In no way do I equate that to you or whatever experiences you may be enduring. If you are seriously booty hurt then I do apologize.

I do know for a fact however that many people DO take advantage.

Dont forget us people who arent on public assistance who always have money for smokes and drink.

We all like to get f*cked up no matter how rich or poor we are.

while SOME may take advantage.. i only saw ONE time in the previous pages where anyone said "some" or "occasionaly" "or many"

every time it was "every" and "all"
there are some of us who have worked our rears off for years.. were providing and doing the best we could for our kids and families.. and got laid off.. and are now struggeling on assistance to pay bills.. to put food on the table.. and to keep pencils in our kids hands at school..

yet when i see topics like this.. tho i have gone back to school. am working a part time job.. and still struggeling.. but working towards putting my life back together.. every bit of work that i HAVE done.. gets pushed to the side..and i feel all the shame i felt when i had to go in and apply for assistance in the first place..

just a thought.. but hate.. is hate.. wether its racism, sexism, or classism..
i would give my left arm to be middle class again. shoot.. i would problibly give my left arm just to meet poverty level again..

I have cried myself to sleep wondering if it would just be easier to fall away from the world.

I have sat in silence trying to live off of a loaf of bread and a bag of potatos for a week in a dark home with no electricity. (pulled that one off for months)

I have felt dead black inside wondering if my life was worth nothing more than next months overdue rent.

Those times come.....and pass.
