Don’t trees have genetic codes?

Is our technology of an order that we could manipulate them to grow into shelters?

Would this be ethical?

What would happen to our planetary engine if we did?

There was an episode on that on the old Disinformation TV show, I believe it is out on DVD now.

Yes, trees have genetic codes.

Yes, theoretically they could be manipulated to be grown into dwellings.

Ehtics....none of the genetic manipulation I see personally, as ethical...as to the wider community, a lassitutde and apathy seems to allow anything to happen.

I dread to think what would happen, AB...we are such an arrogant breed of animal, with very short sight.

Aye but if done carefully we might be able to build shelter and heal some of the atmospheric damage we have caused...

Depending on who does the thinking.

Well I dont know about growing our own homes, but we can fix the environment we even know how, we just need the will.

I've seen where people have manipulated and "trained" shrubs and trees into different sculptures and shapes. I suppose, if someone had the time, patience and know-how, and they could get their decendants to continue the effort when they are gone, it could be done. But it would take YEARS.

Is not all of this genetic research done with the best of intentions? To make something better for a host of good, sound reasons ...Trouble is we are human and our vision narrow ... what can be good and wonderful can also be corrupted and cause great harm through the short sightedness of those wanting power. WE are the problem.

I don't think that it would have to be genetic to train plants to grow a certain way. But it would be a lot of wrok withvery slow returns.

Aye that it might... But we been here years allready... why not put the next 4000 to work doing something worth while... As a world instead of as a loose collection of waring tribes.

So, I watched this one:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3vfuCPFb8wk

And, the point of the mussing is? This was a funny video. Watching how communism, fails, fails, and fails again, only to be rethought and retried again by some highly educated dummy.

During his presentation, he actually showed a diagram with his five business principles, one of them being "a clear legal status". Then he explained that this means "the property of the state"(OMG). Can anyone say "the stupidity of commons"?

So, let us sit back and enjoy. I predict, that as soon as this individual who somehow makes money by fooling others with his green projects departs Borneo, the life there is going to return right back to where it was before his arrival. Two conditions: there is no more subsidies from outside the island, and the land isn't made private.

If any of this conditions is broken, then it will stay green, but, then his main point is lost, because you can't call the enterprise "sustainable" if it requires a subsidy, or if high-value developed land is given (sold for cheaper than real value) to private owner.

In this case, all this sustainable talk amounts to nothing, to a baloney. The enterprise then is as sustainable as a teenager that requires your monthly paycheck for his "independence".

Lots of laughter on this video. I recommend watching it.

Tumbleweeds grow faster than trees anyway. I have seen some as big as a small house.
