Nevermind that the only retail corp. to make profits was walmart, this admin seems hell bent on going after them.

Isn't part of their reason for making profits is that they've become international and the other stores haven't?

There are several reasons why they made profits, while others didn't. Most of which involves: Cheap goods from overseas, an all inclusive shopping center and shopping the competitors so they can undercut them.

I agree, Atlantis, which is why I've been doing my best to keep living life as close to "normal" as possible.

yellowrose - both :)

And filmfreek, we're not quite at the level of "Great Depression" yet. Right now, the national unemployment average is 6.7 percent, whereas during the Great Depression, it was at 15%. I'm not saying people shouldn't worry, because I know we should. I'm just saying that we don't need to run in circles shrieking that the sky is falling.

The unemployment rate is currently 8.1%.

That's not counting the people that have had their unemployment run out.

Sorry, had my figures wrong. Thank you :)

Same with Home Depot. After one opening not far 4 hardware stores bit the dust. While the small stores carried quality stuff..Home Depot introduced the 'Made in China' stuff

I remember buying a DeWalt saw made in Sweden (it was a Swedish company) costing more but lasting longer, and then came the "made in China" version of the Dewalt stuff (now everything) which falls apart on me. I had to dig up small hardware stores which carried the old quality stuff and i started reading the labels to make sure it wasn't built in China.

That's why I shop our local hardware store. They're small, and sometimes a little bit more expensive, but they're locally owned and carry quality stuff. I do a lot of my own home repair, and I've gotten quite good at it, but I still fumble for technical terms at times, lol. When I walk in and tell them that I need a "dohickey", and what I am trying to do, they usually know what I'm talking about.

Case in point, I needed a heater to use in the garage for a project. I went down and explained what I needed, and the owner took three heaters off the shelf, plugged them in, and demonstrated their heating power. Had I gone into home depot and asked them to do that, they would have looked at me like I was insane.
