Topic: Get ready to be counted for the 2010 census | |
---|---|
WASHINGTON - The Census Bureau will begin verifying addresses on April 6. So don't be surprised to see workers with hand-held computers and large black bags walking or driving through your neighborhood.
About 3,000 temporary workers in South Florida will verify and update addresses for mailing Census forms. The address canvassers have been selected, but many more workers will be hired by this fall to help carry out the 2010 Census. Most will be knocking on doors to reach those who do not return the forms. A total 1.4 million will be employed nationwide, including about 80,000 in the Florida, Georgia and Alabama region. Census officials are concerned about counting everyone, especially in a place like South Florida with large immigrant and minority populations. They hope to reassure undocumented residents that they won't be turned over to authorities or deported. "Our message to them is that it's safe to answer the Census. We need to know who they are so funds can go to various areas to supply the services needed by everyone in our population," said Pam Bellis, the Census spokeswoman for Florida. "It [their identity] doesn't go out to anyone else." The Census Bureau has stepped up a partnership program, begun in 1990, that uses community organizations to help reach people who might otherwise not be counted. I always do the census. It is an important thing. It helps the states to get funding and helps to know population increases or decreases. It shows growth of cities and towns. Gives insight to needed highway ghrowth and how much tax revenue the state tax gets.
It tells the average family size per household. Giving emergency responders a hand up on what to expect in an emergency. Kat |

Does anyone know what type of questions are on this census? what questions are not relevant?
Thought it had to do with the population not income. |

It is just a couple of pages long. I actually got 20.00 from the census people that gave it to me upon them recieving it.
Kat PS. By the way...that job pays pretty darn good. |

Looks pretty innocent to me, though don't remember ever filling one out and having to send on it, though do remember answering questions to one once verbally.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 2010 Census is Different The Census Bureau has changed the way it conducts the national count. http://2010.census.gov/2010census/about_2010_census/007622.html Goodbye Long Form In the past, most households received a short-form questionnaire, while one household in six received a long form that contained additional questions and provided more detailed socioeconomic information about the population. The 2010 Census will be a short-form only census and will count all residents living in the United States as well as ask for name, sex, age, date of birth, race, ethnicity, relationship and housing tenure – taking just minutes to complete. The more detailed socioeconomic information is now collected through the American Community Survey. The survey provides current data about your community every year, rather than once every 10 years. It is sent to a small percentage of the population on a rotating basis throughout the decade. No household will receive the survey more often than once every five years. |
