WAKE UP CALL: TEXAS GOV. BACK RESOLUTION AFFIRMING SOVEREIGNTY

AUSTIN – Gov. Rick Perry joined state Rep. Brandon Creighton and sponsors of House Concurrent Resolution (HCR) 50 in support of states’ rights under the 10th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

“I believe that our federal government has become oppressive in its size, its intrusion into the lives of our citizens, and its interference with the affairs of our state,” Gov. Perry said. “That is why I am here today to express my unwavering support for efforts all across our country to reaffirm the states’ rights affirmed by the Tenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. I believe that returning to the letter and spirit of the U.S. Constitution and its essential 10th Amendment will free our state from undue regulations, and ultimately strengthen our Union.”

Perry continued: "Millions of Texans are tired of Washington, DC trying to come down here to tell us how to run Texas."


We shall see where this goes. I hope more states follow.

it's the old states rights versus Federal government thing (THAT is what the Civil War was over)

the states have to continually push to prevent the Federal government from taking over their rights as states

Wow and to think...last September Texas was looking at $11.4 billion in damage from Ike, including $16 million in damage to Houston, Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst said. Devastation in Galveston is another $2 billion, that city's mayor said.

Just about a month ago in March that Texas was asking the fed's for help along the border with enforcement.

In April the feds paid 75% of the cost of a 700 acre fire when Gov. Rick Perry on Friday asked the federal government to issue an emergency declaration to provide assets and resources for 199 threatened counties.

Texas has it's hand in my pocket and depends heavily on the the feds while failing in all sorts of areas.

* Texas is #49 in verbal SAT scores in the nation (493) and #46 in average math SAT scores (502).
* Texas is #36 in the nation in high school graduation rates (68%).
* Texas is #33 in the nation in teacher salaries. Teacher salaries in Texas are not keeping pace with the national average. The gains realized from the last state-funded across-the-board pay raise authorized in 1999, which moved the ranking from 33 to as high as 26th in the nation, have disappeared over the last five years.
* Texas was the only state in the nation to cut average per pupil expenditures in fiscal year 2005, resulting in a ranking of #40 nationally; down from #25 in fiscal year 1999.
* Texas is #6 in the nation in student growth. The general student population in Texas public schools grew by 11.1% between school years 1999 and 2005, with the largest percent of growth seen among low income and minority children.
* Between school years 1999 and 2005, the number of central administrators employed by Texas public schools grew by 32.5%, overall staffing in public schools grew by 15.6%, while the number of teachers grew only 13.3%.

Texas is a mess...a mess with it's hand in my pocket...while they engage in loud mouth don't mess with Texas stunts.

But don't dispair...Texas is close to number one in a few areas.

You all are number one in some real eye opening categories too.

Texas spewed 670 million metric tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere in 2003, enough that Texas would rank seventh in the world if it were its own country, according to the most recent figures from the U.S. Energy Information Administration.

Texas is number one in children without health insurance.

Texas is 1 of the 9 states currently running a budget surplus...they must be doing something right...add to that list of 9 Alaska...

not to mention...texas has one of the lowest tax rates

and did it with no state income tax

there was already one civil war over states rights

laugh and joke as the rights and liberties keep slipping away maybe a reading of the constitution is needed by many who laugh at those that say the fed is overstepping their powers

Yeah, but look at what Lynann posted. Wouldn't be better if they had the state tax?

throwing money at a problem does not fix it

tex does not have income tax

but their sales tax is kinda high and it is on almost every thing

which is truly the only way to fairly tax a population anyway

if you spend money and it is taxed haow can you say the tax is unfair

(other than it exists)

those that spend more money get to pay more taxes

sounds like a sales tax mkes it so all would pay their fair share the more you make the more you spen the more taxes you would pay (no deductions)

wonder why those rich people in congress do not want a flat sales tax
