What constitutes knowing something? What provides warrant to substantiate claiming or believing that one knows anything?

Good point.

That we are. The foundation of our knowledge base is accepted upon pure faith. It is only later, after we have come to know certain things that we begin to doubt in others.

How does one come to the conclusion that a held belief is true/accurate?

How much relevent/supporting information is required to warrant such a thing?

Perhaps through positive results when experiencing it this happens and as the mammals we are meaning we are naturally social, we share this experience with others, in which that escalates as a belief everyone can appreciate.

So what worked then may not work now, as new discoveries are made to improve a faith or approval by the majority.

Don't mind me, I probably made no sense now at 1 AM eastern timelaugh

Smiless,

This statement holds weight, for sure. As social creatures, we indeed necessarily depend upon others for some time. Changed beliefs must be caused by irrefutable evidence contrary to the previously held ones. Although I am left to wonder whether or not the results must be positive ones. Should one believe negative things(have a negative perspective), then his/her beliefs would be solidified by witnessing negative results. Perhaps a corroboration with reality better describes all possible perceptions?

Regarding the 'new discoveries'...

The path of knowledge is layered upon itself. Old knowns, if unmolested by contradiction, become concrete in thought, and the validity of new and relevent infomation is measured against this foundation. We all have absolute truthes held within our knowledge base. These things which we believe cannot be wrong. Should an attempt to entertain a new notion contradict one of these absolutes, then no further consideration can be had. The new information is offhandedly dismissed as being wrong in some way, even if it just feels wrong to some.

Digressing to an earlier thought, these absolutes are most often learned as a child. This ideological construct which later becomes one's for measuring the world around us. Experience and exposure to our environment add things as well, things which we also learn from.

I call this the worldly fingerprint, similar to Freud's ego.

Well, even personal experience is not reliable because memory is not reliable.

Perhaps you can only think you know. laugh

I think I know that I exist.

But I don't know who or what I am.

Its quite a paradox. huh

Disengage the brain....and FEEL....

That is your Knowing.

Drop out of your head, and into your heart, and allow your Knowing to resonate.

Because if you don't believe that there are things that we can know beyond a doubt, there is no meaning in anything. If there's no meaning in anything, then your question is irrelevant and you shouldn't even be asking it.

Lee,

flowerforyou

I am not so sure that your suggestion is a possibility for some. Emotion stimulated by unknowns is a dangerous situation for everyone involved. Knowing lies within the brain's frontal lobes, feeling in the limbic portion.

They must coincide.

I think I know and I know I think.
Or do I only think I think?
No, I know I know that I think I know.
And I think I know what I know I think.
