Ever been in that super curly uh oh moment, where it's not looking great?

yesterday driving into Bundaberg, (the nearest big town-100 miles away)...we had a curly moment.... a semi trailer overtook a caravan and 4wd right in front of us.... he was committed to being on ourside of the road, he couldn't drop back behind the 4wd and caravan, he would have forced them off the road... he's doing 100km/h, we're doing a 100km/h both heading straight for each other.

We're in a little car, not a lot of choices.... either kiss the grill of a Kenworth truck, or go rallying in the sugarcane fields...

...in that moment of diving off the road, and seeing his front tyre in the driver's side window....

you know what flashed through my mind?

'Bugger!'

that was it.... no life movie, no grasping on to life, no acceptance of imminent death.... just 'Bugger!'...noway laugh

After doing a cool 'plane' sideways towards a telegraph pole, missing that, ditch diving, and not rolling, and stopping on all four tyres, I then thought, 'Geez Rhi's birthday would have been crap if we got nailed by the truck'- (Rhi is my youngest and her birthday is tomorrow, she'll be 12).

How weird is that?

We were all ok, the car needs an alignment, and it shook everyone up a bit, but for me was so hilarious.... I couldn't stop laughing and cracking macabre jokes all day... for me, rather than go into all the scenarios of what COULD have happened, I went to "wonder if it would have been a hose clean up or a vacuum cleaner clean up"... I went into...'it didn't happen' scenarios...

So much for the great profound last thought!laugh

Anyone else had a close shave with death, and had weird thoughts?

when a prisoner I was escorting was allowed access to a gun by my partner he had the gun to my head.. my thoughts were **** I am going to die, and immeadiately there after if I don't die I am going to kill this bast@rd when I get my hands on him... And I almost did kill him later. He was handcuffed behind his back and I ran and I do mean ran with him to a van waiting for him It was about 30-40 feet away and I did not stop even when I reached the van as he went flying in..

It's a bizarre moment, isn't it?

So you reacted with anger...? With a fierceness?

Do you think it was survival mechanisms kicking in?

I feel for me, it was just relief... why I went down the laughing road...the others in the car were furious at the truck driver, I wasn't, I figured we all make mistakes, and he made a doozy!

But we were all safe... no harm, no foul, so it was an almost theme park ride rush afterwards...

I've had a few "close shaves". I've done the slow-mo and ultra-clarity but never had my life flash before my eyes.

In all my critical injuries, its been just like surprise. Like you can't believe it's going to be THIS of all things.

I have seen the cartoon-like stars flying around my head. No planets, just stars.

Great partner. Great to know you have someone that you can depend on when it hits the fan, huh? You slammed the wrong guy. You KNOW the prisoner is going to go for it. It's what they do.

Good to hear our law enforcement doing thier jobs on handcuffed prisoners though.

One close call :a tire blew out, on a mountain road of, North Carolina. Threw my friend into a corn field after ,the car rolled three times. The field was muddy; that may have saved his life, according to the tow truck driver.(my friend said : his life flashed before his eyes)All he could think about was a burger, and fries, and a cherry pie.

When I was 12 I drowned. It was an odd feeling, I just KNEW I wasn't coming up again and I was...calm. My last thought before I blacked out and actually died (heart stopped the whole nine yards) as...Wow, I'm warm.

The second time I died (rather telling it's happened more than once isn't it lol) I was in my 20's and my last thought was "Pretty lights".

I've had several near misses and each time my only thought was "Not today please!" No flickering film of my life, not great realizations, just begging.

I guess we just all react differently in those situations...I had a near drowning event in my life when I was about 11, and I remember knowing I was drowning and I also remember my thoughts were "gee this water is easy to breathe in and out and I'm not even choking.."..

Then I was pulled up, then started the choking gagging thing...haha..

And Jess...definitely would have been a 'bugger' moment alright...Glad all turned out well..
