Topic: Call me Senator | |

BARBARA BOXER STAND AT ATTENTION IN FRONT OF OUR ARMED FORCES!!
From a Guard Aviator and Captain for Alaska Air Lines. He hits the nail directly on the head. You were so right on when you scolded the General on TV for using the term, "ma'am," instead of "Senator." After all, in the military, "ma'am" is a term of respect when addressing a female of superior rank or position. The General was totally wrong. You are not a person of superior rank or position. You are a member of one of the world's most corrupt organizations, the U.S. Senate, equaled only by the U.S. House of Representatives. Congress is a cesspool of liars, thieves, inside traders, traitors, drunks (one who killed a staffer, yet is still revered), criminals, and other low level swine who, as individuals (not all, but many), will do anything to enhance their lives, fortunes and power, all at the expense of the People of the United States and its Constitution, in order to be continually re-elected. Many democrats even want American troops killed by releasing photographs. How many of you could honestly say, "We pledge our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honor"? None? One? Two? Your reaction to the general shows several things. First is your abysmal ignorance of all things military. Your treatment of the general shows you to be an elitist of the worst kind. When the general entered the military (as most of us who served) he wrote the government a blank check, offering his life to protect your derriere now safely and comfortably ensconced in a 20 thousand dollar leather chair, paid for by the general's taxes. You repaid him for this by humiliating him in front of millions. Second is your puerile character, lack of sophistication, and arrogance which borders on the hubristic. This display of brattish behavior shows you to be a virago, termagant, harridan, nag, scold or shrew, unfit for your position, regardless of the support of the unwashed, uneducated masses who have made California into the laughing stock of the nation. What I am writing, Senator, are the same thoughts countless millions of Americans have toward Congress, but who lack the energy, ability or time to convey them. Under the democrats, some don't even have the 44 cents to buy the stamp. Regardless of their thoughts, most realize politicians are pretty much the same, and will vote for the one who will bring home the most bacon, even if they do consider how corrupt that person is. Lord Acton (1834 1902) so aptly charged, "Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely." Unbeknownst to you and your colleagues, Mr. Power has had his way with all of you, and we are all the worse for it. Finally Senator, I, too, have a title. It is "Right Wing Extremist Potential Terrorist Threat." It is not of my choosing, but was given to me by your Secretary of Homeland Security, Janet Napolitano. And you were offended by "ma'am"? Cheers! Jim Hill http://www.examiner.com/examiner/x-5740-San-Jose-Republican-Examiner~y2009m7d8-Barbara-Boxer--Stand-at-ATTENTION-in-front-of-our-troopsShare |

Sen. Barbara Boxer's suggestion to a general that she'd really rather be called "senator" has raised a few hackles here.
"Could you say 'senator' instead of 'ma'am?' " Boxer (D-Calif.) said this week to Brig. Gen. Michael Walsh, testifying at a hearing that she was chairing on the levees in New Orleans. "It's just a thing. I worked so hard to get that title. I'd appreciate it." For heaven sakes Jim, get a gripe. All that over Boxer prefering senator to ma'am? No man would tolerate being repeatedly called something he preferred not to be called. She asked him to use senator instead of Ma'am. I don't give a flying hoot what you think or presume is respectable, it's her choice. She's a senator, is she not? Then call her a senator, and get over your self. It's your hang up if you choose to see it as a scolding rather than a suggestion or a request. Get that stick out of your butt, it must be painful Jim. How dare she ask the poor sensitive widdle General to address her as she prefers... ugh You really make the millitary out to be a bunch of insecure babies. |

Get off the high horse yall ain't god. You are PUBLIC SERVANTS... Which seems to have been forgotten in the mad dash for money and power. The guy that wrote the article called it chastisement, however she simple asked him to refer to her as senator rather than ma'am, simple request any reasonable person would have honored. I know unfortunately men still have a problem with women requesting respect. But it's about respect. If the general is secure, he would honor her request. No they are not gods, nor am I but if a person refers to me as something I don't like, I am certainly not going to just stand their and let it continue. They are human beings as well as public servants. Because they are servants does not mean they have have to endure disrespect and if he continued to call her ma'am after being asked not to, that is disrespectful. I introduced myself to a new neighbor once and they asked if my name was my real name. I said it was a nick name I have had for a very long time. She asked me my real name and I told her. She said well I will call you that. I said thanks but I prefer to be called by my nick name. She kept calling me on the phone referring to me by my real name. I though dang this woman is either hard of hearing or has no respect. I told her again I wish to be called by what everyone else calls me and the name I prefer. She continued to call me by my real name. It was a simple request she chose not to honor, her lose, we never spoke again. |

Prpoper military protocol is to call your superiors sir or ma'am. That's what the general was doing. None of the other senators said anything to him. It has nothing to about him not respecting her. Ma'am is respect in the military. The way it came acroos when she said it was like she is better than everyone. Maybe she should show the general respect by knowing and understanding military protocol.
When I was in the military I had the honor of meeting President Clinton. I called him sir. He didn't seem to have a problem with it. Was I being disrespectful to our president? |

Heck President Reagan used to randomly call the troops on border outposts to see how they were doing for christmas. Was very down to earth and not nose up. What she did appeared to be planned and is a tried and true tactic to place the 'interviewee' on the defensive. Politicians nowdays need to watch their p's and q's cause to THIS american they allmost all look like thieves, liers, and con artists... |

So what? are we all supposed to be cookie cutter molds or each other? The military is not god either by the way. I thought you guys where into freedom and individuality. She preferred to be addressed as senator and not ma'am. If a male senator had requested the same I bet this topic would never have come up. So what if the other senator's had no problem with it, they are not her. |

Because he preferred senator to ma'am, makes her better than someone else? Why is that men have such a hard time with women in authority? Both she and the general have a high position, did he get all whimpy about it? I doubt it. |

It was a PLOY to place the person being interviewed on the defensive... Because you think a certin way does not mean I think that way also. Your opinion matters... But I vote based on mine. |
